I hate letting people shoot my rifle after getting a super safety. They seem to be almost entirely self-filtering of their actual owners because of the basic knowledge and safety check of installing one, but anyone who has never really messed with a rifle and just wants to fire it makes me nervous. >How noticeable is the weight difference?
Immediately noticeable. I'll weigh the ASR mount and MD when I get home and compare the two setups. I picked up 3 different sized brakes to see how they would perform with the velos, starting with pic related. I'll put a few mags through it and swap for next size up, rinse and repeat. It also shaved off a good bit of length but I've yet to measure it, but the reduced length and weight are immediately apparent.
>>
>>65511803
I like the vision board of the most use phrases
>>
>>65511860
Why brake over flash hider? Between the awesome silencerco warranty and the velos blast baffle being so retardedly tough you don't really need a brake. Due to the added length of the comstock charlie mount you can even use their full length 3 prong. Personally I'd rather be able to shoot with out the can and still have good flash reduction.
>>
Will any direct option always be lighter than any mount or muzzle device option? And shorter than any non-recessed mount?

Since muzzle device tends to play a role in flash suppression on cans, is having one—any muzzle device—better than DT for flash?
>>
>>65511872
>Since muzzle device tends to play a role in flash suppression on cans, is having one—any muzzle device—better than DT for flash?
It truly depends on the design of the suppressor. A lot of low back pressure cans are designed to have gasses redirected into certain paths by the muzzle device for optimal performance. Traditional baffle cans are less sensitive to muzzle device choice but it does still make a difference. Best thing is to always ask the company that makes the can to see what they recommend.

It's on a 10.3, I'll never shoot it without a can and erosion is already visible on the blast baffle after using the ASR closed tine flash hider. I'm just experimenting and trying to find what will work the best for this setup. I'll install one of the other brakes on my 14.5 once I make a decision, or go a different route entirely idk.

>erosion is already visible on the blast baffle after using the ASR closed tine flash hider.
how many rounds?
i have a much longer barrel but also running the closed tine and thinking of direct threading considering the fact that it basically enables a much larger cavity and immediate expansion into the chamber
would be cool if someone developed a cfd simulation/visualization tool that you can use to configure a rifle and visualize what happens within the blast chamber of various suppressors with different muzzle devices/mounting systems
>>
>>65511894

On an 11.5 with ASR 3 prong my velos doesn't have that much baffle wear. Yeah there's some erosion and you see the pattern of the 3 prong but nothing truly concerning.

sounds good, I'm strongly considering it in-case I get a rhodie 6 in the future
>>65512090
I theorize it doesn't really matter, I would prioritize muzzle device based on personal preference, since you can shoot thousands of rounds through a suppressor regardless whether you have a flash hider or brake. I think the argument of having a muzzle brake as a sacrificial baffle makes more sense with the plan b system since distances to the baffle can vary, but for dedicated mounts it doesn't make much sense imo
>>
>>65512164
Interesting. I got the direct thread adapter for the rhodie 6k as a baseline until I found a good muzzle device that would fit in its blast chamber
>>
>>65512162
It increases intelligence and resistance to bullets.
>>
>>65512199
Ridgeback and Exigent are on record stating that direct thread should be the standard across the industry due to potential tolerance stacking across different manufacturers MD's, mounts, and the suppressor itself. The potential for increased performance with a MD is there, but I personally take their statement to mean that they do all of their R&D with direct thread mounts and that one could expect the performance claims of each of their cans by running direct. So I wouldn't sweat it.

interesting, was unaware of these things. Arguably direct thread is probably the best for a dedicated host whereas QD systems make more sense for mil applications. Plan B i view as a decent in-between though taper mount kinda throws me off a bit.
>>65512228
6j is objectively the best of the 3 simply because it actually has wrench flats
>>65512258
I wouldn't have an issue with this so long as they pull an OCL and let you send in your can for the upgrade if it's substantial enough

>>65512211
This is what I hope too but I guess I worry flash suppression might not be the most major concern in designing their DT-based suppressors, as well as the longevity of the can without a sacrificial baffle. How much of a difference would that make in reducing wear? Would it be the difference between 10000 rounds before recoring or negligble or something in between?
>>65512285
Taper mount will always be a retarded concept to me that betrays a lack of QC to ensure true and square thread tenons

My indoor range has a projector/simulation range that let's you use live ammo.
Learned that under 100 yards you should use a dot zeroed at 25-50 yards, my sling needs to be tighter, LPVOs aren't terrible at close range and close range shooting is claustrophobic having to use a check weld at all times.
Especially if you are at low ready transitioning to the sight, almost better to not have to slam your face on the stock.
Makes me want to try ACOG with a dot on top, 3x is actually really useful but aweful if the target is visually close to you.
>>
>>65513903
>I mean the gov/military wont help you

technically, were not supposed to be shooting anything at all- but only assisting military with nerdy shit they can't figure out during special "events". Things like secure comms devices, satcom, nerd stuff like that. Allowed to gear up your own defense, since mil wont give you their issued M4A1 Carbine to use. Highly-recommend these jobs if you can figure out how to get them as they pay well. Adrenaline rush/danger is there. You work for a few months, then take the rest of the year off for six-figures. sorry I read bb was in general today and my instincts kicked in. Also sick with a migraine and holding on by a thread
>Idk man something very funny about helping the retarded
genuinely I think with later gen z/gen alpha entering adulthood they generally have no idea how the world works, so I feel like someone should at least help them a bit

Replying to me (bb) admitting you're mind broken by me is also funny lmao

The clarity you get with thermal is supreme, it just doesn't have the refresh rate for movement. Go in the woods with nvgs and you still can't really see shit.

You can dual band those smaller units on your helmet next to a pvs14 AND handheld scan AND clipon in front of your day optic. I'm sure some even offer reticles to be used as a standalone weapon optic, making them 4in1 devices. But obviously that comes with the downsides of not doing any one thing the best. The rh25 for example is probably beat out for distance by larger clip on units that would be too heavy to helmet mount. And those larger clip ons can work as a handheld scanner, but they probably don't have the features of a handheld scanner. These are after all optics, glass lenses that are designed to do a specific thing. Asking too much is asking too much.

Do they make mounts for clip on thermals that you can swing to the side like a magnifier?
I feel like you'd have to rezero every time you clipped it back on after taking it off no?

Jumping spiders are smart as fuck. I went down a long rabbit hole about how their disposition is so different to other spiders, as well as how they interact with the environment and other creatures.
>>
I stomp the shit out if spiders
>>
>>65515978
No, because it's just a thermal. It's the same concept as not having to re-zero your magnifier every time you take it off and put it back on. You're not aiming with the thermal, you're aiming with the optic, there's just a thermal in front of it.
>>
>>65515993
I stomp the shit out of otters.
>>
>>65516004
but you're not really looking "through" a thermal the way you are a magnifier, you're looking at a digital image and if that image isn't exactly aligned to show what you would otherwise see through your optic you're going to be off target

Clip on for sure. Can move from gun to gun and use as a (non-optimal) handheld. Only reason for standalone is if you're building something like a dedicate hog gun, and they're VERY good for that.

under 2100 for the guide orion o635cs with qd mount
is the 1080p screen good enough for a 4x acog?
is there a resolution/magnification ratio to stay under for good image quality considering you're basically just zooming in on the screen

The nice thing about COTI is that you can technically even have thermal "through" your optic.Of course, so long as your coti is looking around your optic and I think the detection range isn't that far.
