Can anyone explain the phenomenon of people adding an additional 3lbs of weight to every rifle they own in the form of a big zoom scope and a bipod? It gets even more ridiculous when you realize 90% of the US population lives in a forested or an urban environment, neither of which call for these modifications. What are they actually doing with these things? I am one of the rare people on this board who actually shoots their guns, and I have never needed a bipod, and I have never needed a 3x prism scope for anything. The guns these guys are bloating aren't even PRS guns.Is it a lack of skill in shooting due to poor trigger control? Poor eyesight maybe? Or the worst option, just plain old "consume product"?Leupold even discontinued all of their fixed-power scopes because these people retardedly believe they're not good enough or something.
>>65547482A lot of dudes are prepping for le boog and that means a thermal. Thermals are a cheat code especially at night.
>>65547482let me guess, your shooting involves magdumping at trash from 25 yards
>>65547482>It gets even more ridiculous when you realize 90% of the US population lives in a forested or an urban environment, neither of which call for these modifications.
>>65547502You're not allowed to travel to a place where you shoot your gun because that doesn't fit OP's narrative.
>>65547482Fuck themFuck yamudda
>>65547502>I circled a terrain map of the US, that proves you wrong!
>>65547482>I am one of the rare people on this board who actually shoots their gunsif you have a BB i'd be surprised since that's the most no guns opinion i've heard in a while
>>65547491The true American way
OH NO AN ADDITIONAL THREE POUNDS OF WEIGHT!HOW CAN MY ONIONS DAMAGED NOODLE ARMS AND MY FEMALE FRAME EVER HANDLE THAT?!?!
>>65548005The virgin slick rifle vs the chad attachmentsmaxxer
Rails just add weight (especially on the supposedly 'lightweight' M4)People need to learn to accurately and effectively shoot their rifles iron sights without garbage hung on them. Also the U.S. gun market of the past twenty years or so has become excessively gear-glutted and commodified>get this app for your rifle/pistoloptic-milled semiauto slides are just one recent example
Because people like putting holes on paper and a bipod and a magnified scope go great with that. These guns are shot by boomers sitting on chairs with the gun propped up on the stand. People over 25 dont need to larp about using their guns in the boog to enjoy shooting
>>65547482If you live east of the Mississippi you dont need more than a fixed 4xIf you live west of the Mississippi you dont need more than a fixed 6x
Scopes are absolutely relevent in urban fighting. Anything more than like 25 yards any level of magnification is gonna make you a better sight than iron sights.
>WHY ISNT EVERYONE PREPARING TO BE A RIGHT WING INSURGENT???
>>65547992Yes, unironically. Also urbanites and coasties are not human beings.
>>65551139This but unironically
>>65547488Thermals are incredible during the day as well. You can easily spot a guy in camo hiding in the bushes or trees.
Because shooting ground squirrels/rabbits hiding in tall grass from 50+ yards away is difficult enough without magnification
I just think it's neet
Almost anybody can pick up a gun with an optic and hit stuff. Irons take actual practice to have any hope of hitting anything. That's just too much to ask of a modern man.
>>65547482I think I've figured out my favorite scope w/ adjustable zoom weighs like a pound with rings. Fug. Nice for hunting, though.>bipodI seriously honest-to-god have yet to find a situation where I could use one of reasonable length in the woods. Ever. I had one spot where there was a fallen log at the top of a crease in the hill. Even that spot sucked. Short of going with a 20-40" bipod or a tripod, it's mostly wasted weight and bulk IMO.>It gets even more ridiculous when you realize 90% of the US population lives in a forested or an urban environment, neither of which call for these modifications. Both leaves and partially obscured shots make a 3-9x (or more) not the worst idea depending on your use case. Target ID is fucking hard at times. Hell, figuring out whether you're looking at front or back or which end of game can be hard, especially the better camouflaged and smaller that game is.>>65548221And god help you if you fuck up target ID in some theoretical muh eotw tacticool scenario.>>65551264This.>>65553069I still have no clue how guys hunted squirrels with iron sighted 20" barrel gill guns. Great sight radius. But the target is so fucking small and jumpy. Not to mention all the stories I've heard of>boy you better headshot all them squirrels I swear to god
>>65553069>putting a blade in the middle of a hole requires training Dude anybody who has ever played a fps can do that pretty much instinctually.
>>65553654lol.
>>65553069They really don't but irons users are the manual drivers of the gun world and will never shut up about how they're better than you for using the objectively worse option
>>65551139>flyover monkey immediately starts projecting when realising he's a minority
>>65553654>pressing RMB is the same! No. Just no.You would have a point if it was a VR fps game.
>>65553654Where do you focus when you shoot irons? What is sight radius and why is it important? What's the difference between a 6 o'clock hold, a sub-6 hold, and a center hold? What are the advantages and disadvantages of smaller or larger rear apertures? If you can't answer all of these questions, you can't shoot irons.
>>65553801>Where do you focus when you shoot irons? It would take too much strain to focus on the rear, and it doesnt actually matter if you focus on the front or target>What is sight radius and why is it important?Longer is better but doesnt matter practically >What's the difference between a 6 o'clock hold, a sub-6 hold, and a center hold?As long as they do it the same every time it doesnt matter>What are the advantages and disadvantages of smaller or larger rear aperturesSmaller is better for target shooting, but realistically youre just going to use whatever the gun comes with, so it doesnt matter
>>65547502what percentage of the population lives within that circle
>>65553801The person who said that FPSs teach you to use ironsights is a moron, but a shooter needs to know jack shit about sight radius or aperture sizes when using iron sights. Even holds aren't something you need to know if you zero your own gun - whatever you think is the "correct" way to place the sight (probably center hold) will be what the gun ends up zeroed for.
>>65553801>What's the difference between a 6 o'clock hold, a sub-6 hold, and a center hold? One is where you fucked up zeroing but don't want to admit it, the other is when you fucked up zeroing and tried to fix it, and center is when you actually zeroed the sights properly
>>65553823Higher than one would expect since they included the Ohio river valley, Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and Texas. At least 20-30%
>>65547482>Can anyone explain the phenomenon of people adding an additional 3lbs of weight to every rifle they own in the form of a big zoom scope and a bipod? When I built my AR10, I put a fuckhueg Vortex and bipod on it because I live in the expansive mountains of the American West. I've got a Sig Romeo and Juliet red dot and magnifier for the CQB boogaloo. There's almost no chance I'll ever come face to face with an elk, but every chance I'm going to spot him from a mile or two away and stalk him into range. Assuming I ever get another elk tag. >t. world's worst hunter
