Can anyone here give me a QRD on "serious" full size .22lr target pistols?
Any makes/models that are especially good? Any that are especially bad?
Any particular things a buyer should be aware of? Things like reliability issues, parts breakage, spare parts availability, etc?
Given proper maintenance, these things should last for like a gorillion rounds before wearing out, right? Is there any good reason to buy a brand new one instead of buying a used one?

Does anyone here compete in precision pistol shooting .22s?
I wanted to get into it but my gun is fairly heavy and keeping a steady dot is tough after a while
Any recommended practice techniques for this?
>>
>>65572536
All fixed-barrel target .22s will have the necessary mechanical accuracy for "serious" shooting, even the cheaper ones.
Pardini SP 22 is the king of rimfires, but they have the price tag to match. You don't really NEED one unless you have Olympic aspirations.
A Hammerli 215 or Smith & Wesson Model 41 can routinely be found used for $1000-$1500 if you want something suitable for Bullseye that's significantly nicer than your typical Ruger Mk Series or Browning Buckmarks

Easy fix. You cut it so it fits the red dot. Red dot holsters don't usually protect the dot.
>>
>>65572890
yeah its leather, i could cut it myself
but it will probably end up looking like shit
>>
>>65572894
>it will probably end up looking like shit
That's ok, and as long as you're careful it should look fine. Although I don't have any leather holsters, I have had to modify two kydex ones already to fit my needs. Just carefully cut away small portions at a time until it works and it will look fine.
>>
>>65572888
Just buy a new gun that cant even mount a red dot.
>>
>>65572603
Realistically, if you're shooting Bullseye then you shouldn't have to hold the pistol up for more than 20 seconds at a time. Even slow fire, you want to break the shot before you start getting shaky, otherwise, abort and start over after resting for 10-15 seconds.
>>
>>65572894
leather is like one of the easiest materials to work with
you should already own sandpaper and mink oil if you're an adult
>>
>>65572603
i do and have same issue
some things to consider:
more comfortable stance / better shoes
lighter gun (biggest difference)
dont lock your elbow out straight, but keep it slightly bent
put your gun down between sets
sit down between sets
more efficient time usage, dont aim for too long
practice, and exercise with weights. i bought some 2kg dumbbells and do side raises and hold the arm extended for a bit. also practice at home with the pistol by raising and holding it, daily if you can

also i still suck
>>
>>65572945
>lighter gun (biggest difference)
I have a much easier time one handed with my lighter mki with no dot, so i feel this.
>>65572921
Both of you addressed this, but i am probably way too slow and holding it too long in practice

I might try an put on a newer lighter red dot or switch to irons on the mkii. Would probably make a world of difference
>>
>>65571046
If the gun Is different than pictures on gb you may have a case, but the best case scenario is probably you just returning it to the seller and getting a refund. Otherwise leave a review. If you got it for a decent deal you're fine, the pitting on there isn't that bad

"Although the district court’s injunction applies only to plaintiffs and certain other specified persons, the Department has determined to exercise its enforcement discretion to create greater uniformity, consistent with the Attorney General’s statement today. Consequently, effective October 9, 2026, ATF will no longer require individuals to seek ATF approval under the NFA before making or transferring short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, silencers, and “any other weapon[s]” as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(e). ATF will also no longer require such items to be registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

These policies apply uniformly to anyone otherwise subject to these requirements, not just to the plaintiffs in the litigation.

ATF will continue to administer the NFA on a voluntary basis. ATF will accept Form 1
applications to make or register these firearms and devices by those making such items. ATF will also accept Form 3 or Form 4 applications to transfer or register such items. Manufacturers are allowed to report the manufacture of these items on a Form 2."

New Acquisition Range Report: 1980 Colt MK IV Series 70

Looks good, feels good. I didn't know that 1911s with the higher ejection port will dent the shit out of brass, but now I know. Fired 100 rounds of PMC Bronze 230gr FMJ. The second round I fired failed to chamber completely, and the same thing happened one more time on the last magazine of the day. About once or twice per magazine a spent casing would bop me in the forehead or land directly on the top of my head. The ejector, breech face, and ejection port all look to be in spec. The pistol came with a weird bronzed stainless series 80 profile extractor, so someone was trying to work on the cycling at some point. I ordered a new extractor from EGW, so I'll see if that helps with the feeding and ejecting. And if it doesn't, then no big deal. It's still 98% reliable.

Is the Springfield 10-8 Masterclass worth it over the Operator? I'm kind of iffy about buying an Operator sight unseen since I had to go to several different gun stores to find a stainless Garrison with good fitment, blending, etc. I figure with the TRP and up they have better QC so my risk of getting a rattletrap is much lower.

With the TRP they select for proper slide-to-frame fitment at the start of the assembly process so you're almost guaranteed to get a good gun. Anything below TRP and they just assemble it from a parts bin, which is why you're kind of rolling the dice if you just order a Garrison or Operator from a dropshipper. I would go to a big box store to fingerfuck an Operator, but with their prices I'd only end up saving like $400 vs just buying the 10-8 model.

>TRP vs Operator
The TRP is just an Operator, but better (or Loaded, but better, for the non-railed version). It's also a better value as the cost of adding the features of the TRP that are missing form the Operator (checkered front strap, slide top serrations, magwell) would cost more than just buying the TRP in the first place without the added bonus of the enhanced factory fit.
The TRP is generally the better choice if you can afford it.

>10-8 vs TRP
The 10-8 is essentially a Hilton Yam signature edition of the TRP with a few different features. Which one you should get is mostly just user preference. I, myself, am not a fan of bull barrels and wouldn't get the 10-8 for that reason alone.

All I can tell you is both of my olympic pistols (Walther GSP and High Standard 106 Citation) were shot to oblivion for 40+ years as evidenced by impacted sludge throughout and are still a lot more accurate than me and didn't even need springs. They were both under $700 used as well

High Standards of all eras are known for finicky, tune-hungry magazines, most other similar pistols aren't

Apparently all the MIM in the 385 is sourced from a Texas plant. Named MIM parts are the trigger shoe, takedown lever, and slide catch. There might be more, but these are acknowledged to be MIM

Sonny, if you need more than 9 shots, you better work on yer aim
>>
>>65575235
From most directions of it it looks more like tolerance issues, even in spec the firing pin is might close to slipping, and the firing pin "safety" is small, and has a small engagement area. Then if a mimed part is out if size spec further it would be an issue.
Its clear sig doesn't test their parts, the 365 had multiple batches ship with a too hard striker that would shatter when firing, also had some sort of trigger spring failure issue.
>>
>>65574837
I own 2 RM1Cs (i won one at Gunsite and bought the comp version since I liked it so much).

I love both. Only issues I've had were FTEs in a heavy down pour of rain just last week (owned both since respective release). Triggers are a little heavy but crisp and short reset.

>>
>>65575329
The only issue with the tolerance theory is that every pistol is still failing to reproduce the same failure under the same circumstances. Even if every 320 is fucked up in it's unique way, the process for making that individual gun malfunction should be able to be discovered and repeated. I don't know, I'm at the point in this controversy where I just kind of need to know what's actually happening instead of a vibe diagnosis
>>
>>65575392
>>65575412
1. Machined steel for guns is generally hardened, or at least as hard as necessary.
2. MIMed steel can be hardened, but it's just case hardening
So a problem with MIM is if it's contacting a surface that's harder than it, or if it was hardened improperly, the few atom thick case hardening will be worn away, exposing the very soft internal steel and then the part degrades quickly.
But the buffer problem with MIM (if you have bad a bad source and have bad QC) is it's metsl mixed with a binder, then the heating burns away the binder, this in top of the metal particles melting together causes shrinkage if the part, this can mostly be controlled for but small variations in the metal to binder ratio that happen inevitably can cause parts to be out of spec dimensionally, a good MIM producer will be checking this and throwing them away, and a good firearm manufacturer (like glock) will have their own in house checks for every piece that comes through. And to the p320 as someone mentioned the sear contact surfaces, the striker, and the striker safety are all MIM parts, and have concerningly small contact surfaces even if the parts are in spec. Take glock for example, their striker block isn't MIM, it's machined, and it's contact surface with the striker is about 10x that of the 320, you'd essentially have to snap half your striker off, or a 5-6mm thick piece of machined steel to get that thing to fail. If you look at the 320 it's disturbingly small amount of MIMed metal that's keeping that striker from falling if the sear disengages.
>>
>>65575417
Several independent people have gotten the sear to slip and the striker safety to fail. It is rare though, as it seems you need 2 contact surfaces to be out of spec enough to fail. Many more have been able to get the sear to slip but the safety catches the striker.
And then whats more interesting are the old 320s that most seemingly would go off with a blow to the slide, but it seems not many of those still exist to be dissected.
>>
>>65575442
>but it's just case hardening
That used to be the case 20 years ago. Sintered MIM parts, which are virtually everything you see in the wild, are through hardened.

You sure typed a lot for someone who knows fuckall.
>>
>>65575448
Nobody has been able to recreate the incident that actually happened to the individual pistols. Incredibly important distinction.
>>
>>65575448
What anon is saying is that they can't do a simulation of the cop getting out of his car and the gun putting a bullet into the ground. Being able to do that would be the silver bullet against Sig, but right now they can say that the only failures people are talking about have been done via torturing or modifying the gun in a way that doesn't represent what happened when it was supposed to have gone off.

What other handgun should I consider with a 5 to 5.5" barrel length? I'd rather get a longer gun so I can enjoy a tiny bit of extra velocity and also a longer sight radius because micro red dots just dont work with my eyes

stupid question just for fun
there is a sale for the "MAK P-LOCK GLOCK GEN5" adapter for 50€
see pic related, but without a red dot

since I have a non-MOS G17.5 is that worth it for shit and giggles?

Shot my first GPA match today, finished middle of the pack
Overall pretty happy, zero misses and every single target had two put into the headbox, I could have probably finished 30-40 total seconds quicker if I was willing to mentally accept some charlies or deltas and spent more time airgunning and drilling engagement priority but the latter will come successively with more matches.

"Assembled in America" means nothing.
Literally just re-packaging complete products form China in different boxes, or slapping some decals on the original boxes, legally counts as "assembling" them in America.
That's how these blatantly Chinese products are "assembled" or "made" in the US.
The star-striped banners on the boxes are just marketing BS intended to separate fools from their money.

That shit doesn’t fly for military and government contracts the Colt Optic line is going for. Sig has a Chinese rebrand line and an assembled in the U.S. line for example (and their assembled in the U.S. wins contracts). The electronics are probably sourced from South Korea or another NATO aligned country like Sig and robotically assembled in the U.S. they put their company in Michigan to use former Trijicon and Eotech employees.

The US military and government buys foreign products all the fucking time.
Why the fuck to retards keep parroting the boomer meme that the US military/gov only being allowed to buy products made in the US or in allied NATO countries???
It's clearly not true. All the mil/gov has to do is claim that there is no suitable US or NATO-made product that meets some arbitrary and extremely obscure requirement, and they can just pull those requirements out of their asses without having to justify them.

They've been buying Aimpoints for decades and those are all made in Sweden, which wasn't a NATO country until a few years ago.

What’s the best way to go about buying a handgun from a different state? I can legally have whatever I want but stores in my state aren’t going to stock the Mach3d. I’m determined to not let that stop me since this is for my duty carry weapon, but I’m unfamiliar with circumventing this as I’ve never had to before.
Any advice? I’m considering just flying to my buddies state where he works at a gunstore and getting a fishing license with his address. But I’m open to other alternatives.

And as a side question, I’ve also got 2 or 3 coworkers that would probably want to buy them if I can bring back extras, would gun stores back in commieland have a problem with facilitating transfers between us? Private party transfers of off roster handguns is legal, but I’m worried about stores being gay about it.

It's easy, they send it your gun store or FFL and then you pay the gun store a fee. I live in a real red state and there's no issues, most of the time on gunbroker they won[t ship to CA. but the seller will list all the states they don't fuck with

You mean Sweden the famously NATO aligned country which has always been aligned with NATO without formally joining until very recently. In your own post you state that U.S. products have a preference and a justification (obscure requirement) is required to purchase outside the U.S..

Aimpoints were bought since literally there was no competition for red dots durable enough for military use. Now there are and for example Sig optics are being bought. They ain’t buying Holosun or any other Chinese brand.

This sent me down a rabbit hole– the range where all those celebrities have gone shooting does not have an address listed and is described online as being private land somewhere in Simi Valley. It's closed to the public and does not host competitions in spite of Butler advertising as a nationals champion though his facility wouldn't even be suitable for any and operates more like a ghetto shooting gallery where the entrance is a rusty, sliding door facing a gravel lot. There are much nicer gun clubs and indoor ranges in Los Angeles county where members or visitors don't get hit with shrapnel from steel targets so the A-listers under his tutelage must be utterly clueless or TTI is some kind of racket

Hot take, but I feel like practical shooting sports have basically turned into Sport Karate
Where once they were a way to promote the skills and best practices to win a fight they have turned almost entirely into a game where you shoot guns that you wouldn't carry in ways that you wouldn't want to in a real gun fight.
>>
>>65577793
I think this is a very cold take with high level military members participating in practical shooting sports, having competition shooters flown out and to train them how to shoot, and pretty much all high speed tactical guys using shooting techniques developed by competitive shooters. Isosceles was developed by practical shooting competitions, c clamping which would become thumb over bore was developed by practical shooting competitions.

Yes, you won't be running through a stage/kill house like you do in USPSA as if it were real life. But shooting is shooting, the skills to put gun on target faster and mash the trigger faster are real. My former boss did complain about training scars from practical shooting where it's usually two shots per target in competition, he witnessed people only putting two shots into a guy before "transitioning away" from him despite him not truly neutralized yet.
>>
>>65577793
That sounds right to my ego but I've never competed so I can't really say from experience. My range started hosting some random string of letters competitions so I'm going to try maybe this month.

here you state "does not host competitions in spite of Butler advertising as a nationals champion though his facility wouldn't even be suitable for any "

What are you insinuating here other than anything that Taran is not who he claims to be because his range does not seem "suitable" for shooting competition?

You state this "so the A-listers under his tutelage must be utterly clueless or TTI is some kind of racket" Where you imply that A-listers aren't getting their money's worth? That Taran cannot teach or his shooting location is not good.

If you saw one video of the place or people shooting you'd see how stupid your statement is that they should go to indoor ranges in LA instead of Taran's sea of steel.

I don't see what you're getting at by attacking Taran. Like you, he shoots glocks, infact he's the first person to reach grand master with a glock and founded an empire on being the glock guy selling parts for glocks. Like you, he's a pervert with some troubling history.

https://opticfootprint.com/compare/shield-rms-vs-rmsc/

EPS will not work with RMS.

as far as I can tell, EPS/EPS Carry is 407k (it's actually it's own footprint, it has 4 forward slots for posts, but that's irrelevant it's basically 407k) which is RSMC without the rear lugs. So a true RSMC plate with 4 protruding lugs will not work with an EPS, you have to grind/file the rear off. Many people just make 407k/RSMC plates and call them RSMC where the rear lugs are missing.

You'll have to do RMR to EPS which is stacking plates, the RMR optic plate and then the RMR to EPS adapter. Which I think is only for the EPS full size and uses the extra 2 forward posts I was talking about.

you are not retarded
>>
>a guy at the range said me today "it's ok Anon, I got no issue with you being gay"

>>65577935
nvm I'm retarded. RMSc should fit onto RMS plates, not the other way around, so the EPS should fit onto the RMS plate.

>>
File: IMG_1330.jpg (118 KB, 1015x1280)

>>65578053
Two bolts to swap the holster, you could glue/epoxy together your spacers and wingclaw so they don’t come apart after you get it set so rebuilding the enigma is easier. I tried the Concealment labs since you just unclip the holster like a belt and I didn’t not like how free the gun is horizontally. You have to clip the “belt” and your actual clothes together. You could just wear a real belt at that point or use Hunter Constantine’s concealment belt, or mastermind concealment’s.
>>
>>65578061
Swapping holsters on a Phlster is possible but not a thing you do frequently. It takes some adjustment for each different gun. Once you have a set up the way you like it you leave it and buy a second.

Oh. They only sold those separately for a short while when they went from V1 to V2. You have to buy an entire OS kit, honestly the two bolts that hold the belt on are a total bitch, just undo the ones holding the holster to the face plate - those are easy.

I think 1911 Bushing muzzle-brakes/compensators are stupid, how's it supposed reduce recoil if the whole thing moves back with the slide, it's better to just get a threaded barrel and put a brake/Compensator on the end of it, that way all the gasses exit giving maximum recoil reduction.
technically not a handgun but the PM63 is the same way, the whole compensator moves back with the slide how is it going to give anything other than the slightest miniscule intangible amount of recoil reduction?

protip: heavier caliber guns actually lift their own muzzles up when you fire them.
>>
>>65578405
You're right and you're wrong.
The bullet leaves the muzzle well before the slide starts moving to any meaningful degree.
But most compensatory are trash, you have to have high gas pressure at the ports to convert to velocity so that you can counter the upward momentum that's being generated.
45s are already bad, as it's starts off low pressure and the larger bore means there's even less pressure at the muzzle, then those comps are even bigger. And have big ports generating fuckall gas velocity.

I like them. The triggers feel good/crisp but they are heavy, 5-6 pounds, with a good reset. I've only had malfunctions (FTE) during heavy rain, both ported/non-ported seem to do well with everything else (weather/ammo).

The disassembly is nice but I don't like the internals all being held in with roll pins, I'd like to be able to strip it further & easier to do deep cleans.

No
>Am I supposed to learn how to shoot good before I get a red dot?
Virtually every instructor has stated that people improve faster with dots than irons because the feedback a dot gives you helps you to correct errors in presentation as well as showing your input on the gun. Once you can present the gun with the sights more or less on target and you improve your trigger control to where you don't disturb the sights when you pull the trigger, the dot makes almost no difference except in cases where irons would be difficult/impossible to see such as low/no light environments.

>Am I supposed to learn how to shoot good before I get a red dot?
Up to you, a lot of folks find dry fire training to be the fastest path to getting good and red dots make dry fire training much easier. You don't need a red dot, they just make shooting tight groups especially at distance easier. I can print some great nearly one hole groups with my guns with irons a lot of the time, or I can shoot my red dot guns and print those groups every time.

Red dots are getting really good now days so you can get something way better than the average $300-500 dot in 2016 for half that price in 2026. Mounting them can be annoying but just post here and folks will help you. They helped me!
