Why buy a shitty mediocre gun $200 - $300 dollars like a Canik or PSA Dagger or G2C when you could get a Glock or APX or something for like $350 - 400?
>>65581666poorbrainthe same reason someone would buy a chevy cobalt over something like a toyota or honda
>>65581669"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. ... But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socio-economic unfairness."
>>65581666canik or a psa dagger is fine for a beater gun or a range toy if you already have something nore reliable at home. Definitely should not be your go to purchase if you're a first time buyer looking for an all in one carry and home protection solution. >>65581654If you were going to have more money later, you could save up to get a new gun. It's a question where the only answer allowed "What I already bought"
>>65581682That's not true anymore, hell, it wasn't the whole truth back then. People who could afford nice things could also afford regular maintenance, usually from professionals. You could take cheap boots and also massively extend their life with quality maintenance.
>>65581666APX go for cheaper than that and also there is no reason to get any of those retarded meme pistols when the RXM exists and can take advantage of a massive gen 3 Glock aftermarket, has good improvements over a standard Glock, and takes Glock mags which is the standard pistol magazine. Retards constantly justify buying new pistols that take proprietary mags and it's such a waste of time and resources it's unreal, but retards keep doing it

>>65581624I have a turkshit L9A1 clone and its great. I would recommend spending the $15 or whatever and changing the extractor and recoil springs though, the Turks seem to be awful at springing their guns, same with the cheap GI 1911. Swapping the springs for a 25 dollar set of wilson combat springs made it a very nice shooter.
>>65581757Turk should never be your first choice.
>>65581723Why do you people keep bringing up cobblers every thread.
>>65581770I don't give a fuck about your shortsightedness nigger. If it's cool, I'll check it out. But more importantly, Canik didn't make a name for itself being cheap, because all Turk imports are cheap. It caught on because it was cheap AND good, you only gotta look at basically every review
>>65581774I like them. Especially the blueberry kind.
>faggots too broke to buy a glock new seething at people suggesting alternatives Why is it always Glock? Be less sensitive
>>65581757I never said the gun is bad. If I can choose between it and a glock I’m taking the glock 100% of the time though. None of the trinkets would sway my decision, I want the gun not the toys it comes with.
Getting my commander cut for an optics and I'm having analysis paralysis over getting it cut for ACRO or RMSC. I don't know for sure what optic I want. I know if I choose rmsc but change my mind I can cope with an acro adapter plate, but I don't think the opposite is a thing (acro to rmsc). It's my main carry piece so this feels like a big commitment.
>>65581787I'd take the Canik because i think the P99 is way more fun to shoot than any Glock on the planet and Caniks are P99s. Any trinkets are just icing on the cake
>>65581793Acro seems like it'd be fugly on a 1911, particularly a commander. Youre carrying a 1911 so looks matter.
>>65581793ACROs are not small dots. They're rugged and reliable, but if you're going to be carrying IWB then you may notice the extra bulk over smaller, carry oriented optics. But what do I know, I'm an irons faggot

>>65581827The RMR HD looks cool on a lot of guns. It's a very aesthetically designed red dot shell. I can't comment on the rest because I don't own one, but I can say it looks better than all my dots.
>>65581793I can vouch for the EPS carry as a CCW optic, I put one on my G17 and it still works but thats because the carry model was on sale. Right now I am considering getting a full size EPS putting it on my G17 then putting carry on the RM1C.
A friend once told me over the phone that his TP9 had a magazine problem or some issue to do with cycling but I have no experience with Canik pistols myself.

unpopular opinion:iron sights are fine, and red dots dont make you shoot any better
>>65581888I don’t think you should go with a acro for carry, sure its a good dot but its a chunky one. There are plenty compact enclosed optics ready for CCW with the tradeoff being a good number are made by chinks.

>>65581793The ACRO is hot dogshit. Get an EPS carry.
>>65581929>>65581936Maybe up close.Red dots help me a lot at longer range, like 25 yards and out. Right now nothing comes close to my RxM with a holosun at distance for me.But I'm trying to correct that with irons by taking my slow fire pistol shooting much more seriously.
>>65581885Undoubtably, I should also mention that I never saw his TP9 and he might have been inventing excuses for not shooting.>>65581929Unless you have a fiber optic, your sight picture is going to be worse in every way. Said 30 rounds lead fouled the living shit out of my barrel, too.>MagtechUnreliable and possibly dangerous. Primers are too hard. Multiple rounds per box didn't fire the first time, but fired the second time. This is possibly dangerous because a round that doesn't go off on first firing pin strike may actually go off a second or two after the firing pin strike. If you are rapid firing and don't have the necessary reaction time to stop shooting and keep the gun pointed down range for at least 10 seconds like you're supposed to when a round doesn't go off, the round may go off while it's in a side chamber.>Precision One copper-plated wadcuttersFlawless. Reliable and not dirty. These are the ones I wanted to be reliable the most and I'm happy about these, as these, being copper-plated, can penetrate through things like winter clothing or windshields better than non-plated lead wadcutters. I recommend these.
>>65581929Optics are entirely unnecessary on pistols for virtually all self-defense scenarios since virtually all self-defense scenarios are at under 10 yards.

>>65581964Unless they’re on a Beretta then they look like shit
>>65581793I recommend getting a plate system if you aren’t married to an optic. The Nighthawk IOS plate system is really good, super low, can swap plates without removing the optic from the plate and it takes 30 seconds. You could show up to a match and shoot optic and iron divisions with the same gun, if they allowed double registrations.Heavily suggest the MRS-1 for an acro mount optic. Haven’t shot mine but 389 dollars + features better than the Acro in every way.
>>65582085The RMSC plate for the IOS system. The front iron height for IOS is the same as an iron sight gun.
>>65582057>since virtually all self-defense scenarios are at under 10 yards.this opinion is always expressed by someone who has seen some random everytown dataset used to justify <7rd magazines and takes this poorly-collected and incomplete data and extrapolates it to justify the fact that they don't want to spend $200 extra on an opticthe in-n-out defender literally just made a video where he says "haha maybe it's time I stopped doing stupid shit and assuming everything happens under 7 yards and actually carry something realistic because I couldn't hit shit with my irons at the distances I needed to"
>>65582087Forward cantilever optics however cannot have a front iron, little irons that sit in the SRO and RMR HD pocket do work if you need BUIS.
>Brand new LCR trigger is binding/getting caught in rearward position>rounds also fail to fully extract from cylinder>send it to Ruger and mention both issues>they only fix the trigger by reworking the pawl>also realize that it has issues with bullet creep on the ammo I bulk purchased (Magtech 130gr .38)I guess I just have to live with the fact it’s never going to be a gun I can trust. Shame because it’s also not as comfortably to shoot as larger revolvers. I really prefer revolvers for carry personally, so it’s a shame I can’t find a reliable one.
>>65582057That’s not true and I’m not carrying for self defense, I’m carrying for a full on counter offensive. Yes read this back to me in court. Optics are faster than irons and yes you still need to aim within 7 yards

>>65582097>carrying for a full on counter offensiveYou went down the wrong historical doctrine you fucking retard PX4 simpSOCOM tried to revive the Offensive Handgun concept in the early 90's only to learn why it died in the first place: profound inferiority to carbines. Carrying pistols instead of PDW's or midget AR-15's is a compromise we make because of practicality or legislative JuweryHonestly brain yourself
>>65582176>You probably aren't even one the guys shooting. It's not even about the guys shooting, per se. The equipment is clearly doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Look at Burt's scores. He goes from a 295 shooting the Walther Q5 with an optic to a 280 shooting the iron-sighted 226. Px4 anon goes from 283 shooting the Px4 compact with an optic to a 247 with the Px4 without an optic. That's not to say those guys are bad shooters. On the contrary, they're quite good (especially for these threads), but the gear helps them perform at their best level.
>>65582183At this point the opticsfags are worse. You can't say anything less than fully positive or they have a chimpout
>>65581795That’s a valid reason though. If you just like it then obviously get that.
>>65581380CZ P-10Cit's like a glock but cheaper
>>65582195I shoot irons all the time, you don't need an optic to be a good shooterwhat I'm specifically taking umbrage with is this retarded idea that as long as you can hit things within 7 yards, you're fully covered for every concievable self-defense encounter, which is just as stupid of an opinion as "don't carry with a round in the chamber, you'll always have time to rack it">>65582181>But most people are shooting recreationally and to understand basics of self defense and that's fucking ok.nowhere did I say that's not okI'm talking about people going to the range twice a year to poke holes in paper at 7 yards then saying that optics are stupid, your opinion on what qualifies for an acceptable level of skill is essentially irrelevant. that would be like me, a fairweather bogey golfer, saying that you don't need fairway woods or a 60 degree wedge because you can just use one more stroke with your long irons.
>>65581929idk I've never used a pistol with an optic but after trying this month's challenge and seeing my front sight completely cover the little dots I'm open to more precision. I'm not going to debate about self defense or anything but just in general I think I could achieve way more precision with a dot. At least that's what I'm hoping for.
>>65582057I don't just stop at whatever is "good enough."
>>65582222Retards just want to argue. Can you hit a deer with a bolty and irons at a 100 yards? Yeah. Will a scope make it easier? Yeah. On the flip side, having a red dot on a pistol does open up to battery failure if your irons can't see through it. However, the benefits of the optic outweigh the negatives.
>>65582097>I’m carrying for a full on counter offensive. Yes read this back to me in court.Based. I just want to make him shit himself first.
>>65582142>>65582144Wish I was around for these two. Fuck these damn dots.
>>65582220NTA, but my issue with most opticsfags is that a lot of them insist that optics are necessary when they are the very same people who punch holes in paper at 7 yards and think that they're covered. For the vast majority of people I know and people I've seen at the range with pistol optics, it's a crutch that lets them be barely passable.
>>65582220You're in the handgun general of /k/. Most people here go at least once a month. You are venting against people who arent here
>>65582226I'm not super worried about batteries because they last so long and the tray is on the outside. I have a little notebook that I use to keep track of battery install dates and stuff like round counts, cleaning, etc.
>>65582261The only problem is that shit happens. And when shit happens you're likely going to be caught with your pants down with an optic. But again, that's just a downside unless you have suppressor height irons.
Honestly I do not see the point of debate, shoot what you are most comfortable with. I have shot with different sights and optics, but I find myself most comfortable with irons on handguns, but prefer a scope on rifles. Your results may vary. What I will say is that a good shooter should know how to work with all of these, even if he has a preference to one or the other. Practice enforces habits, and so long as you have good habits, you will become a better shooter, regardless of your equipment. There are videos out there of people hitting targets at 100 yards with a NAA Mini Revolver with only the provide sights. I am not saying you have to be that good, but this helps illustrate my point. It does not matter what you are shooting, but rather how you are shooting it.In other news, I couldn't shoot today, my father fell on Friday and he saw the doctor today, he might have busted some ribs, so that is it until next weekend. Shame, since I had four days, but two were taken up by an event I planned on attending and the range is closed tomorrow, was hoping to put another 200 rounds through the 1911-22.
>>65582276>unless you have suppressor height irons.Supposedly the sights I have will cowitness but I don't have an optic yet. If it's a problem then I'll get taller ones.
>>65582283>my father fell on Friday and he saw the doctor today, he might have busted some ribsthat sucks anon, at least ribs tend to heal quickly even though they hurt like shit until they do
>>65582304>>65582283I broke my rib last season playing rugby, it sucked for like two months. The good news is that recovery is just chill until it heals.

>>65582304>>65582309Thanks bros. Hoping he heals up in time for my birthday in about a week. Last time I prayed for it, it was granted (that was when he had a stroke maybe 3 years ago at this point). Was hoping he would be able to join me for lunch, I will be going to a buffet then and that day they have fresh carved ham or fried catfish, fried sweet potatoes or potatoes au gratin and either apple or key lime pie among other things.Speaking of birthdays, his birthday is December, he will be 81. Not sure what to get him, he just bought his 1911-22, so I am not sure if another gun is on the menu (would likely be a Model 36 or Model 60 J-frame), but I am open to what you folks have to say.Pardon my tangent.
If nobody posts this month challenge until Saturday, I'll try it at 7 yards and ignore time limit.
>>65582187>picrelI like the Mark 23 but it's just too expensive for what it is. I've been using the adjustable curved metal trigger from grayberg on my USP 45 and feel like I have, essentially, a smaller but refined version of a Mark 23. Maybe it's cope, maybe I'm onto something. What I know for sure is that the straight metal triggers (grayberg or otherwise) are silly or, at the very least, designed for people who shoot their DA/SA pistol exclusively in SA
>>65582276That's why optics with solar failsafes are so awesome (or I guess fiber optic like the dual illuminated rmr)
>>65582433>solar failsafeSolar failsafes are only good if they charge the battery which I think none of them do.
>>65581929I do like having an optic when available, but I won't go out of way for one. I like carrying a CZ 75 Compact, and I'd have to get the slide milled if I want an optic, which I'd rather not do. If a handgun isn't optics ready from the factory, it won't get an optic.
>>65582391I was doing it at 5 and the dot on my front sight was way bigger than the dots on the target. It was raining so the target fell off after 15 rounds. >>65582442One of these days I'm buying a second one and getting that slide milled. Not this day.

Went to the range last monday and there was a cute black spinner who was about 5'2 90 pounds, 23 years old tops. >>65582768I know that I am feeding a troll, but I might as well take the bait and I would beg to differ. Even fairly comparable guns can be slightly different. For example, when growing up and shooting a lot of mouse guns, a Colt 1908 and a Bauer automatic (a Baby Browning clone) had some noticeable differences in things like recoil, trigger pull, the optimal grip positioning, aiming, etc. even when firing the same .25ACP ammo, the Bauer had slightly more recoil than the Colt. Now I have guns of my own, but not too many, same with my father, but suffice to say, every gun is different. Calibers, barrel length, weight of the gun, weight of the ammo, etc. are all key factors. Add into this the fact that "guns are made to be shot", and yes, even the Lorcin that >>65582525 has, that you really have no excuse to not go out there and shoot what you have, because it is better to be carrying and shooting a well worn gun that you are familiar with than a bright, shiny, new gun, that you have never shot before.

The sig will have stronger aftermarket, be able to convert to any size you want with the FCU, be easier to conceal, and have more available mags in a decade or two. The FN will have a better finish and less parts breakages, with the sig famously breaking springs at relatively low round counts. I'm at 17k without swapping springs, the LAPD ran 2 FN 509s for 20k each without swapping springs and had no failures. The sig 365 platform often has problems snapping springs at 3-5k rounds, meaning you may want a stockpile of them

Even then Polish laws are weird, harder to get a gun than America, but easier than most of Europe, but when you do, self defense is not only protected, but required. Argentina still has room for improvement, the CCW process needs an overhaul.Excuse me for waffling on, but honestly, Asians and guns are almost like oil and water.

>>65584689about half of europe you can own an ar15 and pistols, but you have to go through a lot of hoopssuch as being active in a pistol range to own a pistol, or being active in ipscif you leave the clubs then you lose the right to own the guns. so a lot of people just pay their yearly memberships but never goconcealed carry is rare in europeself defense is also limited. In some countries you can use lethal force to defend life from a deadly threat, but not to defend property

I am in your shoes right now, but swap Czech Republic with Argentina, but we are not properly dating yet (she just said she likes me and thinks I am cute and wants to get to know me). The thing is that she would rather live in Argentina than America (she likes America, but her country is first), so I have been familiarizing myself with the gun laws, in case I do decide to visit, because there is good hunting. I have a feeling the current admin might make CCW easy, since they are slowly turning it into America. AR-15s are now legal, but this was not the case ~6-7 years ago. Say what you want about Milei and his admin, but they are a godsend for gun rights. Makes me worried about who is next, though. Also Hi-Point would make serious bank in Argentina, they are perfect, because right now the available semi-autos are too expensive for the average person.
