How would you rate the goat?

Browning Black Label 1911 .380 Tungsten finish (kinda rare lmao)

I picked her up at a gun show back in the day and she burned a hole in my head until I got her. Its 15% smaller than a 1911, and can be summer carried in short shorts and a crop top.

Running custom .380 +p 90 grain 1150fps

>>65581380
>first handgun
I’d spend it on ammo and train instead
>>
>>65581387
Who needs a gun? Just cup the bullet and hit the primer with a punch!

I spent 200 hours dry firing on a red practice pistol before I even started the pistol permit process for my state. If you don’t train, you’re a liability.
>>

>Pistol permit
....you're from Europe right? I literally can walk into Walmart and walk out with my tendies and a new gun if I wanted to (with a 4473 of course)
>>
>>65581380
I wouldn't get some LEO beater just for the name recognition, that's for sure. I'd probably get something that offers a lot of included stuff, like Caniks that offer a sketchy but usable holster, several mags, magloader, cleaning tools, etc. Even if I specifically wanted a Glock style gun, I'd just get the RXM
>>
>>65581398

Handguns are extremely durable and cops don't shoot. I hope you're that euro from above because buying a gun for the accessories it comes with is retarded. Unless it's an optic and you're getting the coa for cheap or something. A fucking mag loader though? You don't even need one of those. If I have 400 bucks to my name, I'm getting the package deal that gives me the most stuff and lets me start carrying right away. A glock brand glock with 1 10 round mag doesn't compare favorably to a Canik that gives you literally everything you need but the bullets

lol that's not the point. The question was if he had $400 only to buy a gun. My answer was to get the most value out of that $400, because Caniks are pretty dang good guns and they give you a lot out of the box.

>Canik that gives you literally everything
I bought a lower receiver that came with trigger, grip, safety selector, and stock. I've swapped out just about all of it. Sometimes getting everything is a worse value than not getting everything.
>>
>>65581590
They're not the best, but they do work. The question is if you only have 400 bucks, right? You might not have the money to kit yourself out and get ammo. That's who budget firearms are directed at.
>>
>>65581580

>>
>>65581602

>>
>>65581542
Just get a Hi-Point and a some spare magazines for it. When you come to have more money, then get something good. No point in spending 100% of your savings, because, even though Glock and Canik are good, if something breaks, will they honor the warranty and, if not, can you afford to fix it. No good having a $400 paperweight.

Honestly, you would be better off getting a hunting loicense and an old Mossberg, Remshit, or Savage bolt action rifle and start killing squirrels, rabbits and rats for food after work. A small shotgun is also good for this too and might open you up to pigeons. That is what my poorfag ass did back then. If you live innacity and cannot do this, my condolences.

there is a ton to be said about parts commonality and aftermarket
i don't buy turkshit but on a casual search, Canik will only send you MC9 parts under warranty and you have to email them which is an immediate "no" from me if I'm going to be carrying the gun
Contrasted with the glock, you can buy a full set of replacement parts for pretty cheap and the gun will basically work forever without relying on a manufacturer

Why buy a shitty mediocre gun $200 - $300 dollars like a Canik or PSA Dagger or G2C when you could get a Glock or APX or something for like $350 - 400?
>>
>>65581666

the same reason someone would buy a chevy cobalt over something like a toyota or honda
>>
>>65581669

"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. ... But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socio-economic unfairness."
>>
>>65581666
canik or a psa dagger is fine for a beater gun or a range toy if you already have something nore reliable at home. Definitely should not be your go to purchase if you're a first time buyer looking for an all in one carry and home protection solution. I've got 3 daggers and two of them have been quite reliable, but i still wouldn't trust my life to them unless i had no other options
>>
>>65581654
If you were going to have more money later, you could save up to get a new gun. It's a question where the only answer allowed "What I already bought"
>>
>>65581682
That's not true anymore, hell, it wasn't the whole truth back then. People who could afford nice things could also afford regular maintenance, usually from professionals. You could take cheap boots and also massively extend their life with quality maintenance.
>>
>>65581666
APX go for cheaper than that and also there is no reason to get any of those retarded meme pistols when the RXM exists and can take advantage of a massive gen 3 Glock aftermarket, has good improvements over a standard Glock, and takes Glock mags which is the standard pistol magazine. Retards constantly justify buying new pistols that take proprietary mags and it's such a waste of time and resources it's unreal, but retards keep doing it

I have a turkshit L9A1 clone and its great. I would recommend spending the $15 or whatever and changing the extractor and recoil springs though, the Turks seem to be awful at springing their guns, same with the cheap GI 1911. Getting my commander cut for an optics and I'm having analysis paralysis over getting it cut for ACRO or RMSC. I don't know for sure what optic I want. I know if I choose rmsc but change my mind I can cope with an acro adapter plate, but I don't think the opposite is a thing (acro to rmsc).
It's my main carry piece so this feels like a big commitment.
>>
>>65581787
I'd take the Canik because i think the P99 is way more fun to shoot than any Glock on the planet and Caniks are P99s. Any trinkets are just icing on the cake

Acro seems like it'd be fugly on a 1911, particularly a commander. Youre carrying a 1911 so looks matter.

Recent .38 special 148 grain wadcutter testing results:

>DoubleTap
Jesus FUCK do not buy this. So fucking dirty. Looks like shooting a fucking musket. Felt noticeable resistance inserting one into a cynlinder after only 30 rounds of this, so stopped. Did not get through entire box, will never shoot this again except if a zombie apocalypse occurs. Said 30 rounds lead fouled the living shit out of my barrel, too.
>Magtech
Unreliable and possibly dangerous. Primers are too hard. Multiple rounds per box didn't fire the first time, but fired the second time. This is possibly dangerous because a round that doesn't go off on first firing pin strike may actually go off a second or two after the firing pin strike. If you are rapid firing and don't have the necessary reaction time to stop shooting and keep the gun pointed down range for at least 10 seconds like you're supposed to when a round doesn't go off, the round may go off while it's in a side chamber.
>Precision One copper-plated wadcutters
Flawless. Reliable and not dirty. These are the ones I wanted to be reliable the most and I'm happy about these, as these, being copper-plated, can penetrate through things like winter clothing or windshields better than non-plated lead wadcutters. I recommend these.

I recommend getting a plate system if you aren’t married to an optic. The Nighthawk IOS plate system is really good, super low, can swap plates without removing the optic from the plate and it takes 30 seconds. You could show up to a match and shoot optic and iron divisions with the same gun, if they allowed double registrations.

Heavily suggest the MRS-1 for an acro mount optic. Haven’t shot mine but 389 dollars + features better than the Acro in every way.

this opinion is always expressed by someone who has seen some random everytown dataset used to justify <7rd magazines and takes this poorly-collected and incomplete data and extrapolates it to justify the fact that they don't want to spend $200 extra on an optic
the in-n-out defender literally just made a video where he says "haha maybe it's time I stopped doing stupid shit and assuming everything happens under 7 yards and actually carry something realistic because I couldn't hit shit with my irons at the distances I needed to"

I guess I just have to live with the fact it’s never going to be a gun I can trust. Shame because it’s also not as comfortably to shoot as larger revolvers. I really prefer revolvers for carry personally, so it’s a shame I can’t find a reliable one.

SOCOM tried to revive the Offensive Handgun concept in the early 90's only to learn why it died in the first place: profound inferiority to carbines. Carrying pistols instead of PDW's or midget AR-15's is a compromise we make because of practicality or legislative Juwery

Honestly brain yourself
>>
>>65582176
>You probably aren't even one the guys shooting.
It's not even about the guys shooting, per se. The equipment is clearly doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Look at Burt's scores. He goes from a 295 shooting the Walther Q5 with an optic to a 280 shooting the iron-sighted 226. Px4 anon goes from 283 shooting the Px4 compact with an optic to a 247 with the Px4 without an optic.

That's not to say those guys are bad shooters. On the contrary, they're quite good (especially for these threads), but the gear helps them perform at their best level.

I shoot irons all the time, you don't need an optic to be a good shooter
what I'm specifically taking umbrage with is this retarded idea that as long as you can hit things within 7 yards, you're fully covered for every concievable self-defense encounter, which is just as stupid of an opinion as "don't carry with a round in the chamber, you'll always have time to rack it"
>>65582181
>But most people are shooting recreationally and to understand basics of self defense and that's fucking ok.
nowhere did I say that's not ok
I'm talking about people going to the range twice a year to poke holes in paper at 7 yards then saying that optics are stupid, your opinion on what qualifies for an acceptable level of skill is essentially irrelevant.
that would be like me, a fairweather bogey golfer, saying that you don't need fairway woods or a 60 degree wedge because you can just use one more stroke with your long irons.
>>
>>65581929
idk I've never used a pistol with an optic but after trying this month's challenge and seeing my front sight completely cover the little dots I'm open to more precision. I'm not going to debate about self defense or anything but just in general I think I could achieve way more precision with a dot. At least that's what I'm hoping for.
>>
>>65582057
I don't just stop at whatever is "good enough."
>>
>>65582222
Retards just want to argue. Can you hit a deer with a bolty and irons at a 100 yards? Yeah. Will a scope make it easier? Yeah. On the flip side, having a red dot on a pistol does open up to battery failure if your irons can't see through it. However, the benefits of the optic outweigh the negatives.
>>
>>65582097
>I’m carrying for a full on counter offensive. Yes read this back to me in court.
Based. I just want to make him shit himself first.
>>
>>65582142
>>65582144

>>
>>65582220
NTA, but my issue with most opticsfags is that a lot of them insist that optics are necessary when they are the very same people who punch holes in paper at 7 yards and think that they're covered.
For the vast majority of people I know and people I've seen at the range with pistol optics, it's a crutch that lets them be barely passable.
>>
>>65582220
You're in the handgun general of /k/. Most people here go at least once a month. You are venting against people who arent here
>>
>>65582226
I'm not super worried about batteries because they last so long and the tray is on the outside. I have a little notebook that I use to keep track of battery install dates and stuff like round counts, cleaning, etc.
>>
>>65582261
The only problem is that shit happens. And when shit happens you're likely going to be caught with your pants down with an optic. But again, that's just a downside unless you have suppressor height irons.
>>
Honestly I do not see the point of debate, shoot what you are most comfortable with. I have shot with different sights and optics, but I find myself most comfortable with irons on handguns, but prefer a scope on rifles. Your results may vary.
What I will say is that a good shooter should know how to work with all of these, even if he has a preference to one or the other. Practice enforces habits, and so long as you have good habits, you will become a better shooter, regardless of your equipment. There are videos out there of people hitting targets at 100 yards with a NAA Mini Revolver with only the provide sights. I am not saying you have to be that good, but this helps illustrate my point. It does not matter what you are shooting, but rather how you are shooting it.
In other news, I couldn't shoot today, my father fell on Friday and he saw the doctor today, he might have busted some ribs, so that is it until next weekend. Shame, since I had four days, but two were taken up by an event I planned on attending and the range is closed tomorrow, was hoping to put another 200 rounds through the 1911-22.

Speaking of birthdays, his birthday is December, he will be 81. Not sure what to get him, he just bought his 1911-22, so I am not sure if another gun is on the menu (would likely be a Model 36 or Model 60 J-frame), but I am open to what you folks have to say.

What I know for sure is that the straight metal triggers (grayberg or otherwise) are silly or, at the very least, designed for people who shoot their DA/SA pistol exclusively in SA

I know that I am feeding a troll, but I might as well take the bait and I would beg to differ. Even fairly comparable guns can be slightly different. For example, when growing up and shooting a lot of mouse guns, a Colt 1908 and a Bauer automatic (a Baby Browning clone) had some noticeable differences in things like recoil, trigger pull, the optimal grip positioning, aiming, etc. even when firing the same .25ACP ammo, the Bauer had slightly more recoil than the Colt. Now I have guns of my own, but not too many, same with my father, but suffice to say, every gun is different. Calibers, barrel length, weight of the gun, weight of the ammo, etc. are all key factors. Add into this the fact that "guns are made to be shot", and yes, even the Lorcin that >>65582525 has, that you really have no excuse to not go out there and shoot what you have, because it is better to be carrying and shooting a well worn gun that you are familiar with than a bright, shiny, new gun, that you have never shot before.

I don't understand the point of the USP Compact. It's the same concealability as the regular USP

https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/heckler-koch-usp-45-vs-heckler-koch-usp-compact-45

Just get a p2000 at this point, at least that looks cool AND different
>>
>>65582812
I don't actually have a lorcin lmao. If I had one I'd still go shooting at least once a month with it. Or more realistically I would save up for something decent.

I carried a P2000 in the Border Patrol. It was chambered in .40. When I got out I bought one in 9mm and it is the best gun I own. I quit shooting it after they quit making it
>>
>>65582607
It's got steel baffles which is a must have for .22 imo and an analogue to click-together baffles, yeah it looks like a good design especially at $180

When I had to pick a gun for concealed carry, I tried a bunch but it came down to a PX4 or P2000. I don't regret the PX4 as I still think it's thr beat compact on the market but I still think of the P2000 that got away

Straight numbers wise, it sucks. Shooting it is great. Sure, it's a bit thick, its flush fit (and extenddo fingger-grip) mags are lower capacity than many modern guns and it has no capacity to mount a red-dot. It is the first pistol I ever bought and I will never sell it. The trigger is surprisingly good. It's very accurate. It's very comfortable to practice with. Every time I shoot it, I think "man, I need to shoot this more often".

Can only speak on the USP 45 compact, but it's significantly slimmer than the full size 45 and definitely shorter. The handgunhero link you sent compares flat baseplate full size to pinky baseplate compact, which is not a fair comparison. I carry picrel USP 45 compact and keep the full size as a bedside gun

better high velocity projectile selection than .45 ACP, high power rechamber for any .45 ACP firearm capable of withstanding the pressure.

there was a time where lethality mattered, now we just have slack jawed limp wristed faggots posting thaiwanense lady boys and their plastic 9mm sissy pistols
>>
>>65582977
>better high velocity projectile selection than .45 ACP,
.45 Super*

.45 ACP projectiles going really fast don't do that very well as they over expand and do not penetrate far. What I posted was a 135 gr 10mm projectile going like 1800 FPS that sheds all it's petals within 6 inches for high energy transfer and gnarly fragmentation then the core of the JHP punches to 18 inches. It meets the FBI's theory of lethality (12 -18) and then the .45 guy's theory of lethality (muh energy transfer and temporary cavity).

Shot a bunch of 9mm options with my pops today at an indoor range, some unexpected winners.
PDP and VP9 weren't as good as I expected, and I felt like the PDP trigger worked against me a bit in trying to find the break. M&P Carry Comp was as good as expected, the 509 surprised in solidity and less than expected recoil impulse. I shot the P30 like a champ at 20 feet but unfortunately can't accept an optic without milling. Largest surprise of the day was the P365 X Macro comp, I think that's almost a lock for one of my pistols to get before fagland WA implements the permit to purchase in May.

Glad to hear it anon, if it swings your decision the FN 509c is $349 atm and can be made into a subcompact, compact, or fullsize with just a mag swap. Although atm the fullsize mags are out of stock so you would have to buy a 17 round fn fullsize mag and then buy a compact 17 round mag sleeve and slap them together which is silly expensive at like $65 together.

I've shot 17k rounds through my 509c without a single gun related failure and love it, but I have shot the sig xmacro side by side with it and enjoyed that as well. With Washington's restrictions coming in you may want to lean towards the sig as the aftermarket is so much stronger, especially with the serialized FCU. The sig will have stronger aftermarket, be able to convert to any size you want with the FCU, be easier to conceal, and have more available mags in a decade or two. The FN will have a better finish and less parts breakages, with the sig famously breaking springs at relatively low round counts. I'm at 17k without swapping springs, the LAPD ran 2 FN 509s for 20k each without swapping springs and had no failures. The sig 365 platform often has problems snapping springs at 3-5k rounds, meaning you may want a stockpile of them

Also Asia is generally a massive anti-gun shithole. I talk to a few girls on-line on the regular and what I get is that a good amount of Asia is even more cucked than Europe.
>Iranian told me hunting rifles were banned in 2023
>Indonesian said it is impossible apart from the government or some CEOs, unless you join some rebel faction
>Jap has a Type 20 because JGSDF servicelady, but other than that harder than the UK to get one
>not a lady but I have befriended a local Cambodian guy and he said all guns are completely banned in Cambodia
I really just spend different parts of the day talking to different girls around the world (I have a life, though so not all of them every day) and the Asians are pretty poor in gun rights.
That said, apart from Yemen, the Czech Republic, Poland and Argentina, guns are stupidly restricted. Even then Polish laws are weird, harder to get a gun than America, but easier than most of Europe, but when you do, self defense is not only protected, but required. Argentina still has room for improvement, the CCW process needs an overhaul.
Excuse me for waffling on, but honestly, Asians and guns are almost like oil and water.

about half of europe you can own an ar15 and pistols, but you have to go through a lot of hoops
such as being active in a pistol range to own a pistol, or being active in ipsc
if you leave the clubs then you lose the right to own the guns. so a lot of people just pay their yearly memberships but never go
concealed carry is rare in europe
self defense is also limited.
In some countries you can use lethal force to defend life from a deadly threat, but not to defend property

Shame it didn't work out. I am in your shoes right now, but swap Czech Republic with Argentina, but we are not properly dating yet (she just said she likes me and thinks I am cute and wants to get to know me). The thing is that she would rather live in Argentina than America (she likes America, but her country is first), so I have been familiarizing myself with the gun laws, in case I do decide to visit, because there is good hunting. I have a feeling the current admin might make CCW easy, since they are slowly turning it into America. AR-15s are now legal, but this was not the case ~6-7 years ago. Say what you want about Milei and his admin, but they are a godsend for gun rights. Makes me worried about who is next, though.
Also Hi-Point would make serious bank in Argentina, they are perfect, because right now the available semi-autos are too expensive for the average person. Bersa Thunder 380 is like $600, for example.

around 25 yards, the red dot will meet the peak of the arch of a handgun round
all other distances, the bullet point of impact will be lower than the dot, by an inch or two maybe
at least you dont have to worry about hitting over the dot

Minor rust on the plate that was below the enclosed defender. I CC'D that for about a year before the defender failed in the rain (assumption).

I have 2 (3) of the MRS-1, I have not been able to shoot them yet but side by side with the ACRO it mogs it. ACRO does have some style points but the MRS-1 looks to be very well built (robotically assembled instead of put together by african immigrants).

Which one you carry and if so what holster you use? Them handle-it grips worth the extra shekels? Any chance you got a P10-C dry fire mag? I hear the mags are cross compatible so might as well use one for playing

Honestly irons don’t matter as I will use a optic, I love my EPS carry but guess a 509t or even AEMS MACRO would be better on my G17 duty iron, probably gonna get a light after holster but design holster around the light anyway

no dry fire mags.

I use my t-rex arms P226 w/300 turbo light for the holster for my ported RM1C EDC. Since it is based on the light it works well. Same with my OWB holster for it. I also use the ANR w/side car if I want to carry it without the light for smaller size. I'm back to carrying my 226 since my defender enclosed is getting looked at.

I like the HIG stickers, elite, for it. I don't like the standard grip texturing on the original, I haven't felt the updated version.

After messing around with my gun a bit I'm not sure if it's the frame or that spring making a hint of grittiness. It could be the little groove under the trigger bar for the top of that spring to sit in. Still the gun seems fine otherwise and I'm so tired I forgot what else I was going to say.
