Anyone tried one of the newer and cheaper primary arms prism optics they released? My ROMEO5 is now almost unusable for me. I have a microprism from PA and love it already but that was almost double the price, so I'm skeptical of this newer cheaper one.

Fellow astigmatism brothers, please help me.

why do people disparage PSA so much?
>>
>>65613514
PSA's quality control can be hit or miss for their uppers. And don't even talk about their AK QC.
>>
>>65613514
Because you don't have to pay $3000 for one and gunko pop meta chasers get mad at a rifle that functions just fine at $1000 instead of what you'd pay for DD, Larue, KAC, Noveske etc

Are they AS good as the aforementioned? No not really. Are they reliable and extremely good value? Yes absolutely. Past a certain point you're just paying for bells and whistles. It just comes down to bragging rights over who paid the most for their rifle

>Are they reliable and extremely good value
throwing a flag on the field for this one. I would say their sabre line is gtg, but anything else made by PSA is a huge YMMV. I personally believe they have too many eggs in one basket with everything they manufacture, and that results in inconsistent QC across their entire lineup. Sabre is gtg only because it's hard to fuck up the AR in the modern age
>get mad at a rifle that functions just fine at $1000 instead of what you'd pay for DD, Larue, KAC, Noveske etc
What pay for with these companies is, as mentioned, more streamlined QC and generally better performance when it comes to barrels, bolts, etc. PSA is fine for the guy who wants and AR and doesn't shoot it more than 4 times a year, but I would never consider anything less than their sabre lineup for "serious" use

>>

A blem should be the exact same thing as the more expensive model just with scratches and shits, cosmetic. If you're finding genuine issues with blem stuff from PSA that speaks volumes about their quality overall.
>>

Can you explain that? So this one doesn't have one of those magnifying lenses over the screen? I'm confused on how you would use this at 1x, and other magnifications for that matter. The one I've used has a "clip on" mode but it doesn't have a 1x.

I think the main point is the resolution especially at distance. That 7999 is the Nocpix 1280 at 200 yards. Compared to the first one which is 1024 resolution, the third one is 384 res and the final far right one is 685 res.

Clip on mode is 1x base magnification and the image itself on screen has to be such a size that your magnified optic can make practical use of it once you are looking at that magnified image >>65614319
That’s kind of my point. It’s a 4 in 1 unit so while it’s offering improvements they seem to be spread across all the different uses but if you’re someone who’s using it primarily as a clip on I dont think the improvements to the clip on aspect are all that significant from what can be had in an RHV2 which presumably will just get cheaper now anyway.

Okay so it's built with the intention that you use it with a magnified optic? I think I have a fundamental misunderstanding on how clipons are used. I don't really pay attention to this stuff I just see people talk about it sometimes in here. I was under the impression that I NEEDED a 1x optic to use with a thermal clip on.

It was there thankfully along with the AR-15's belonging to several of my other internet pals such as KC and G$ anon. What escapes my recollection is whether Navajo rug anon preferred the rail mounted or A2 "Gooseneck" CompM4 photo.

Then I saw a schizo claiming I'm in /gq/ in spite of my being a nokitz which was never a secret but he's convinced otherwise because of "posting styles" or some shit. No disrespect to plate or mag carrier anons but Rittenhouse proved that a 30-round magazine loaded with FMJ, a sling, rudimentary optic, nylon gloves and some water is all the kit you need to defend your community from race rioters (he never even used the IFAK)

you better have backup batteries if you're gonna use it as a handheld they drain fast. it's primary as a helmet mount with a usb battery pack connected then you can scan for hours on end. Secondary use as a clip on, then as a weapon mount.

looks like they improved the oem mount too it's QD 1.93 the other versions had recoil lugs and weren't QD. youd buy that separate.

In your opinion, if I have a 20” PSA upper on a bushmaster lower, should I just keep the upper or sell it?
Idk if it’s just me, but I feel like the upper doesn’t really fit the lower (it has a little wiggle room side to side), and I feel like it’s not the highest quality, or at least on par with the lower. I know PSA doesn’t have the best rep; I mean I think it’s fine, but I just don’t know if it’s as bad as I’m making it out to be in my head. If I ever wind up selling it, I might just get an A1 upper. I bought a 20” because ballistically speaking it can get more use out of 5.56 than a carbine, and I love cheap ammo.
I’m under the impression that a 20 inch barrel turns m193 into a pretty serious round.
How accurate all of this is- I don’t know. I hear conflicting things. If having a 20” barrel is not that great, then I’m all for bing properly educated.
I guess it’s impossible to have 1 rifle that does it all, but I live in a rural area, and essentially I want a combat rifle that would be perfect for a scenario where everything goes to crap. I’m open to criticism and correction on this.
>>
>>65615532
m193 is perfectly deadly out of a 14.5, and if people are wearing plates, 90% of the time they will be L4 anyway so all 5.56 is gonna get stopped.

it's not accurate. because you can watch buffman shoot any modern level 4 plate and it will stop m193 out of a 22 inch barrel. but I appreciate your cope on your barrel length purchase.

M193 out of a 20" will pierce most steel plates.
M855 out of the same 20" will pierce most UHMWPE plates.
Neither round or M855A1 even will pierce a good Level IV plate unless you score second hits very close to the first. Needs to be within 2".
>>65615539
M995 at 3,400ft/s will pierce various boron carbide or steel (these exist but are gun show 12lb specials) Level IVs. Cheaper Alumina and SiC plates can handle it fine.
More advanced 5.56 AP will do better but won't do all IVs reliably first hit.
>>65615617
Nah, .300 Winmag M2AP reloads. 6.5 ain't gonna do shit and AP .308 isn't reliable.
Buffman's testing shows M2AP at 3,300 clears most IVs with ease. Exceptions are Adept Colossus and likely other hardass "IV+" plates like the Gilliam 8002, along with the Protech 2230.

Contrary to what other people are saying, the vast majority of armor CONUS outside of law enforcement / military is going to be steel. You only need to look at sales numbers to see this is true.
It is not uncommon for steel armor companies to sell thousands of plates on ebay and other side gig platforms alone.

In that case, you can pierce per the guidelines in >>65615647. Dick shots are still preferable unless you KNOW you can pierce, which you don't with 5.56 because you don't know the plate.
>>
>>65615532
14.5 or 16 is more than sufficient for long range with nicer ammo. Otherwise just get an 11.5 and a can. We have entered the drone age. M4s are PDWs.
>plates
Aim for the face, problem solved
>>
>>65615683
aiming for the dick is way more effective not even considering the logistical issues for the opfor. think about it, you're in the big piggly wiggly and you hear from the squad leader
>watch out there's a snipe
or
>watch out there's a guy who shoots people in the dick
which is gonna have more effect on morale.
>>
>>65615575
THEY'RE SAYING ONLY A SNOWFLAKE DON'T WANT NO PISTON
>>
>>65615699
Agreed. Helmets are increasingly rifle rated wholesale and there are instances of even ACHs and such ricocheting rifle rounds they aren't rated for.
Dick, femoral, pelvis shots are the counter to plates. Also just magdumping and explosives.
Problem is close quarters, you'll just end up trading hits if both guys magdump. If you can clear the plate on the first hit with strong AP ammo, you're in much better overall shape. Problem is that unless you have tungsten on your side, busting a IV first hit means you gotta bust your ass.
>>
>>65615699
I guess it depends. CNS eliminates an immediate threat. Femoral is potentially a larger target area to create a casualty.

>>
>>65615759
the anon I was actually talking to has mentioned headshots, in your case the dick shot would be a substantially smaller target to be fair.
>>
>>65615759
The dick is right next to your femorals and your pelvis / abdomen, none of which are covered by the plate or a helmet.
Bot post?
>>65615757
Depends on the material of the plates. Steel plates will handle M855 fine. PE plates will handle M193 fine. Ceramic plates do both.
>>65615773
Femorals and what else is next to the dick.
>>65615766
No, because you can Ukraine it up and easily stop birdshot with even the shittiest soft armor out of a department trash can.
There is a 10 mile gap between pistol / shotgun and actual rifle threats in terms of armor penetration.
>>
>>65615780
>Bot post
You clearly are the bot post. Aiming specifically for the dick is just as difficult as aiming specifically for the head. That's why militaries train to shoot for center mass. That's half the reason why plates cover center mass.
>>
>>65615791
>The dick is right next to your femorals and your pelvis
lol. Bro thinks this is Fallout and you have to specifically target rather than what's incidential to the point of aim.
>That's half the reason why plates cover center mass.
No, it's literally because those are your vital organs and expanding the plate elsewhere is an ergonomic / weight disaster.
>>
>>65615780
>Steel plates will handle M855 fine. PE plates will handle M193 fine. Ceramic plates do both.
Then what is the actual point of a 20” barrel in 5.56 other than aesthetics?
I’m not even trying to be funny. Genuine hypothetical questions here. What’s the ideal length of a 5.56 if it can’t bust plates out of a 20” barrel, but you still want max potential out of a 5.56? And at that point is it unironically smarter to go for headshots in the case of a societal collapse where foreign soldiers (or bandits or whatever) are wearing plates?
>>
>>65615796
>you have to specifically target
If my zero is set for center mass and my reticle is designed to aim for center mass, yes? You do shoot guns right? Even your dot should be zero'd for center mass.
>>
>>65615829
Because steel plates can handle M193 at lower velocity (this ranges from 2,600ft/s to 3,100ft/s generally, 3,250-3,300 is what you want to pierce most) and PE plates can handle M855 at lower velocity (M855 gets iffy at 2,800 and below).
More velocity, better your odds.
>And at that point is it unironically smarter to go for headshots in the case of a societal collapse where foreign soldiers (or bandits or whatever) are wearing plates?
No, go below the plate and go for abdominal or femorals or dick. Head you'll just miss. If you want to pierce, get a .300 winmag and reload with pulled M2AP. Level IVs are only good against that threat up to 2,910ft/s. A .300Win can get you to 3,300ft/s or above.

Good news is that a lot of "civilian" plates are seriously sub par and you'll be able to pierce with repeat hits.

Should have gone in 2020 it was fun back then. $99 hesco 4s for days. aws had their old website and prices. Lots of traffic because of covid and the blm protests. It was a great time to get into gear.

>/arg/ is now under /gq/ occupation
That would explain the surge in traffic this month.

>IIIA from CHINA
>visors from Protech
So shooting the visor with JHP will still blind the wearer because of the surface shatter
>only had first gen RMA 1093
Still filtered whatever that armed security guard had loaded
>not a binary choice between cartridge selection and shot placement
Fair

Another holiday season is upon us, may we all see dawn of the new year.
>>
Noveske gooner bros, we could be so back
>>
>>65616054
Ironically I did move here after /gq/. Getting gear was what made me decide to stock a common caliber and magazine so I bought an ar and started lurking here. It was when sheetzo was doing his thing.
>>
>>65616047
I was there. Hescos were cheap as hell because the company's rep was in the shitter due to back-to-back four NIJ suspensions. Unlike guys like Highcom and RMA, Hesco did square people with replacements. They're an honorable company, but only build to a hair over spec.
Armor industry is entirely reputational and built on trust. If nobody trusts your product, nobody will buy it unless you're at desperado pricing. See how Highcom discontinued the el cheapo 4SAS4 as soon as word got out it was a piece of shit.
>>
>>65615845
At that point, why don’t you just use shotguns?
>>
>>65616072
>Hescos were cheap as hell because the company's rep was in the shitter due to back-to-back four NIJ suspensions
Lucky for me, I had no idea about that.
>>

>JHP will still blind the wearer because of the surface shatter
Well, any bullet due to glass damage. If you want true multi hit on these, hit up the Protech 702MT or the metal visors from guys like Adept.
>Still filtered whatever that armed security guard had loaded
Yeah, a handgun. Jimbo even wrote in his manifesto, before the shooting, he had regret about getting the plates and should have gotten a IIIA soft vest. Lighter, covers more.
>>
>>65616074
soft armor clears shotguns easy except for slugs, which can deal high backface deformation.
>>65616075
Were you under a rock, lol? It was the highest profile shitshow since Zylon or Dragonskin. 4401 is fine, 4400MC is fine, 4400 / 4600 / 3410 / 3610 are all dicey.

There used to be bodycam video of a cop eating 12 gauge point blank. The guys mom answered the door and he came out from behind her and shot the cop. I can't remember for sure if it was a slug but I think it was.
>Were you under a rock, lol?
I only heard about 1 and everyone said it was nothing.
>>
>>65615983
why is rma bad?
>>
>>65616090
The 4400 was reinstated along with the 4K10. Rest are dicey. The 4600 is real bad and should be replaced ASAP.
>>65616094
Shitload of reasons.
1. Cheat rings they failed to disclose for years
2. Bad QC. Buffman's 1155s were champs, Anon got a plate that failed to two 7.62x51mm FMJ.
3. Nominal sizing. Their 10x12s are really 9.5x11.5 or less. Their SAPI Ms are smaller than 9.5x12.5. Makes the plates seem lighter.
4. Making youtubers pull tests that go wrong.
5. Attempting to sue Arfcommers
6. Failing to disclose a lack of drop protection on the 1165s
7. Shills
8. Bad test reports
9. Changing specs on a whim
10. Sending Buffman 1192s 10oz heavier than advertised and 1155s 0.2lb heavier.
I can go on.

Practical and tactical, fren.

>Protech 702MT
>or the metal visors from guys like Adept.
Thanks for bringing these to my attention, I'll have to consider the possibility of a Jimbo type having either if I'm ever downrange of one.
>>
>>65616148
Not a problem. If you want a 702MT they're $170. Best transparent visor aside from the top shelf 7.62x39mm MSC rated ones from Mehler Vario, but that's credentialed high dollar shit.
https://surplus.botach.com/protech-702mt-ballistic-face-shield-nij-level-iiia-multi-hit-tokarev-police-trade/
Adept's Novasteel is popular with some of the second division armor autists you see on plebbit, including the ballistic mandible. I think it's underbuilt and I personally have a much stronger, 7.62x25 steel core / 12 gauge slug rated Warmag NP550.
Their Nova Titanium however is a bit promising.

>>65615923
Get the fuck out of here faggot. You cry about off topic in /gq/ just to bring that shit here. Nigger.
>>
55 grain plinking ammo is the best for HD, fragmentation velocity to ~60 yards even with a 10.3" and breaks up in drywall better than 9mm and buckshot.
Give me one good reason you shouldn't build and train around 55 grain m193, and then proceed to exclusively use m193 for HD as well.
>>
>>65616177
lol you got the wrong person. I've said several times gq needs more autists in different areas.

35 7/8" from start of 1st molle panel to end of last molle panel. then several inches of excess strap for adjustment.
hope that helps

I just don't want to hang out there when it's all armor conversation. I think they post just to keep the thread active but that is what keeps me away. I don't like sifting through it to look for non armor questions.

There's a version 2 of the hesion bow hub mounting system. It seems like an aesthetic improvement at least.
>>
>>65616209
No, I am one of the armor posters, but I've said before there needs to be autists in other areas.
The problem is thus:
1. You can just ask non-armor related questions anyway.
2. The armor conversation is very technical, but like it or not we collectively do know our armor shit a lot better than plebbit, so people call and we answer.

M193 isnt plinking ammo. there is absolutely no point in spending more and increasing wear to train with it. Shoot whatever 55 grain ammo you can get cheapest and stack the m193 for later use.

Oh I'm not the one complaining about you guys. I was just saying why I don't post there much. I don't really have questions but I asked about those straps a while back and that was exactly what I wanted.

Email them, they have a customer service guy now. But AWS has definitely dropped the ball on A LOT of things lately. Just a few months ago people were putting them on the shitlist thinking they turned into a scam company. However, I have gotten my last 3 orders from them (mag pouches, TQ pouch which sucks but that's a different story).
>>
>>65616259
That used to be normal for them but I guess it's changed. I waited 5 months for my plate carrier but it was something like $150 shipped back then.

>>65616341
That really sucks to hear. Is there anything else or just the wait times? That poor girl there used to get yelled at so much for how long they were taking.
>>
>>65616354
just the wait times, you could place an order and there would be radio silence for half a year + .
>>
>>65616362
I thought they were supposed to fix that but I guess not. It was okay when their prices were cheaper than everyone else.
>>
>>65616312
