do you guys know if social anxiety and gender dysphoria are linked at all, even in pre transition people? i was talking to a psychiatrist yesterday related to my social anxiety, we couldn't really figure out the cause, at one point the topic of my gender dysphoria came up and eventually she proposed that my gender dysphoria might be somehow causing my social anxiety. and it kinda made sense. anybody know anything about this? captcha:NGGAHX

no shit dysphoria can cause symptoms like anxiety and depression in pre/early transition people? that's the boymoder stereotype
>>

idk how i managed to never link the two before. but also how does it exactly cause social anxiety? i can understand it in trans people post transition but how does it work when i'm not even trying to pass as anything?

i'm not underage? what makes you think that?

trans people often don't fit in with their peers and generally come across as weird before they consciously realize they are trans. not to mention autism is a common comorbidity. i can imagine once people actually pass the social anxiety goes down because you have to stop pretending you are a different gender and by case hiding the effects of hrt, but that couldn't be me haha

makes sense... so uhm do i just say fuck it and troon out i guess? my thought process was that i would just rep forever because i already have really bad social anxiety and if i trooned out it would get much much worse until i started passing but if it is the reason why i have social anxiety to begin with i guess i just have to try trooning out.

Anxiety and social dysfunction are both symptoms of gender dysphoria.
>>

The anxiety won't disappear on it's own, but transition gives space to heal. You'll still need therapy, which you're already getting so that's covered, but it will start to be effective in actually reducing your anxiety.

Hey uhm i think you're trans right? Do you have less anxiety now than before transition? Also do you pass? I just can't imagine being a non passing tranny helping with the anxiety.

Not much to say other than that I experience both very strongly, especially around the topic of sex I just freeze and get nauseous. Yes I know I need therapy no I can’t afford it

I'm reading a book about anxiety right now. Basically, when your internal being is challeneged by reality, an anxiety response is triggered. Since you have gender dysphoria, any social interaction can easily challenge your internal sense of who you are, triggering anxiety.

book name? sounds interesting
>>
>>40912460
uhh like, isnt this kind of obvious?
one disorder makes you a social outcast (even when performing externally), have terrible self esteem, and generally stunts normal development and adds a bunch of stress constantly
wouldnt that reasonably make socializing difficult and anxiety inducing?

anybody know the artist of picrel?

Sorry, it's Lacan's seminar X. That's why I didn't say the name of the book and just broke it down to the most basic level that it could make sense here. The cause of anxiety can't be identified with a common object. It's like the pressure of everything you can't deny or reduce to something understandable bearing down on you, which for gender dysphorics is certainly a lot.

oh wow is it any good? i don't really read old books on psychology because i feel like they would contain a lot of outdated info but it seems cool.

my social anxiety literally disappeared when i got on hormones (i think the confidence after a little bit+getting rid of my brainfog helped a lot) but then i got a horrible job and used nicotine to cope and then it came back when i tried to quit nic for 4 months so idk atp :,,)
