Most reasonably intelligent people are keenly aware of the realities that they're facing. I think most trans people wholly understand the weird middle space they occupy, but lying about the internal struggle is the only way that people can get acceptance and medical intervention. A good portion of it is a sex thing, not being able to actually get off is in fact torture, not being able to place yourself in your own sexual orientation is very weird and even weirder to describe to normal people. Being gay is very much a sex thing and somehow we've gotten to a place where we can overlook it being a sex thing and act like what people do on their own time is their business. Being trans is in a large part about sexual orientation and people are not ready to hear that yet. Somehow we're all about allowing boob jobs and facelifts, testosterone replacement therapy, dickpills, hair plugs, finasteride, etc, all of which is definitely a sex thing, but we can't accept that wanting to to look like the opposite sex is in part a sex thing. Everybody that isn't a geriatric woman is in fact a bit of a pervert and likes fucking, and somehow we act like a trans person finally being able to get off deserves some insane level of scrutiny above and beyond any other social group. The trouble is that being trans and taking hormones is harder to hide socially and people don't want to be treated like sex pests while going to the grocery store. People deserve that dignity the exact same way that gay people deserve that dignity. You don't call a gay guy a dirty faggot for kissing his husband in public, do you?
