It's mostly comfy these days, likely because it's far too slow for trolling to be very rewarding.
The slowness makes it very difficult to get a nice conversation though, I only get 2 or 3 a year now.
Back in 2013-2020 we would get around 300-450 posts per day but now it takes us 8-12 days to hit the 310 post bump limit

Traditionally a lot of posters join the discords and then stop coming to the thread but another part is that 4chan as a whole is dying.
If you go and look at the charts on 4stats.io you will see that most boards peaked in activity back in 2011-2013 and are now at half of the posts per day they had back then but it gets even worse when you realize that at least half of the posts on most boards nowadays are just ai generated images being spammed in the dedicated ai generation threads so the actual numbers of real text posts that you can converse with is more like 25% of what it was 15 years ago.
Also the site has a huge bot problem these days, if you go look at any thread on the other boards you will start seeing that almost all long verbose posts are littered with "—", keyboards don't even have a "—" key but chat gpt inserts this character into every single post it makes.

My grandmother doesn't want to be put in a home so my mother and stepfather have had to move in with her and she gets 4 care visits a day from the socialized care service which helps but my mom is now fighting a legal battle with them.

I think with time away many just got out of the habit of coming to this site
/clg/ was actually more active than usual the week the site came back as we had like 12 different anons who hadn't posted in 1-4 years say the they saw the news of the hack and decided to check up on /clg/ so we got to see people we hadn't seen in ages which was nice.

In my grandmothers defense she doesn't really start it, she has been incontinent for 2 years now and soils herself without realizing and when my mom tries to make her get cleaned she often has a meltdown over being ordered around by her daughter.

Not to sound judgemental as I don't think I could care for a deteriorating loved one but I think it's not great of her to have done that. Of course I don't know the specifics but to have your partner of decades incarcerated like that...
After my grandmother was diagnosed with the Alzheimer's in 2019 my grandfather was opposed to putting her in a home at any point and was very adamant about caring for her to the very end, unfortunately he passed away tragically in early 2022.
Though I'm not sure how well he could have really cared for her as he had mobility issues and couldn't really be on his feet for more than a few minutes at a time.

People with Alzheimer's seem very inquisitive, always asking questions about all sorts of things, obviously simple things that they used to know and they forget within 20 seconds of you answering them but there is a certain childlike wonder they have.

My grandmother likes days out too though she is wheelchair bound when outside the house, it's great that you visit him, far to many people in care homes are forgotten and treated horrifically by the staff too.

4chan is way less toxic than reddit, I don't use social media other than 4chan really so I can't comment much here.

That's terrible.
My stepfather recently started working as chef in a care home and before he did he was already supportive of my mom backing her mom up over not wanting to be thrown in a care home but after taking that job he is 100% vehemently against letting them get their hands on her.
The care staff are allowed to use "reasonable force" to get compliance out of the people locked up there and they can get quite violent and often just restrain the prisoners and have them tied to their beds because they don't want to deal with them, it's fucked up.
He often hear prisoners being forcibly restrained and calling for help.
Also he get in arguments daily because his job is to keep the people fed and healthy but the staff (who are all immigrants from 3rd world countries) often just want to leave people with dementia in their beds skipping breakfast and lunch because they "are difficult"
He is probably going to end up getting fired because he can get quite aggressive and shouty with the other staff when ordering them to actually do their jobs.
