The idea that there is an essential unchangeable male essence that trans women possess is key to how we are marginalised. I do feel some connection to a sort of trans flavoured boyhood, or to gay masculinities, but why on earth would I center that? My current reality is not as a woman,-like man, it's as a woman, and if I am entirely reap about the complexities of my existence then that gets denied. Instead I would be painted as essentially male and that would be used to hurt me.Trans men are not viewed as a threat in the same way we are and so have some limited freedom to discuss the complexity of trans manhood. Trans women are held under additional scrutiny and so we have to sanitise the experience of trans womanhood. In other words, to hide our transness as center our womanhood.
