We can't, for example, send 14 year olds off to war just because they are six foot and emotionally mature. We have to take responsibility for the welfare of people in development, which is why child transing is an issue, same as other minor choice-issues.And if you can't measure it, you can't legislate it. Moreover, its just a tasteless pursuit. Being 'correct' doesn't make something 'right'. Its a poor waste of resources to attempt such a thing. There has to be some line drawn somewhere, and this is where the culture is.I don't think the other extremes are helpful either. Not promoting a culture of child marriage doesn't mean someone should be shamed for being 27 and dating a 19 year old, especially if they have a chance of making a family.This is the problem with the American idea of "when I can afford it" because fewer and fewer people can, so they try starting families in their 30s and wonder what went wrong eight years later. One of them will always lose the necessary idealism to make it work sooner than the other because nothing is special to them after dating for 15 years already.
