is wandering son good enough for it to be worth watching despite the psychological damage it will likely cause
>>

Yes, it's not that bad. The manga on the other hand is a fucking drag and it goes nowhere and never fucking solves anything and I will reread it a fifth time anyways.
>>
>>41260344
give me a tldr of the show
>>
>>41260378
I watched it when I was a kid so I don't remember desu 'nona. It starts differently to the manga and I think it also has an alt ending.
I would need to watch it again to give you a good opinion/tldr.

The plot of the manga is basically: there's this TRANNY who wants to be a WOMAN and this other TRANNY who wants to be a MAN and they go to school and have friends. It's a very slow slice of life that covers like 8 years of the characters' lives.

and the ending is like sad as fuck right i think i saw that
>>
>>41260314
i think its kinda ass and i watched it back when i was a kid who loved anything lgbt because i needed it badly
>>
>>41260416
It's not sad, it just goes fucking nowhere and makes you feel like you just wasted A LOT of time. It's inconclusive. You can see it as sad if you want to and that's the general consensus.
>>
>>41260432
okay well that doesnt sound very entertaining ig i won't watch it then. i kinda wish there were more trans animes or shows that arent called that just bc peope see body horror and start grasping at straws
>>

Just read Bokura no Hentai. It's a fucking trap yaoi fetish manga and it's still somehow the better one out there. Now that I think about it, all MtF mangas that I know and are not Wandering Son were published in yaoi magazines.

>wandering son
I read the manga but it added too many side characters and neglected one half of the main duo until the very end in a way that felt cheap
>bokura no hentai
seconding this, probably the best trans manga I've read because it touches on a lot of themes I haven't seen anywhere else
Other ones that aren't trans-centered but I still liked:
>Himegoto: Uniforms at 19
>Smells like Green Spirit

very messy, badly paced, poorly structured and not in an interesting way; more in a "the director didnt really know what they were doing" kind of way.
its also my favorite anime of all time, although i dont really watch a lot of it so take that for what its worth. first episode never fails to make me just absolutely fucking bawl. digs into my heart with the whole hand and twists it something nasty. all the scenes have a really faint faded outline and muted colors, like they were memories pulled from some distant dream, or from a far flung reality that never happened but is all too real. beautiful piece of art.

i saw this in middle school and it made me rep until college instead of trying to DIY asap.

>worth watching
read the manga instead
>>
>>41260314
Read the manga instead. It can certainly feel like things are passing by but that's kind of the charm? You're an observer to the lives of the characters and how they face the world as they grow up. Not sure why people in here hate it so much. I can only really think of a few legitimate major complaints and those horses are so thoroughly beaten by this point it's not even worth discussing.

TLDR: you follow two kids as they grow up in 2000's era Japan and observe how they interact with society and themselves as they grow up while being trans.

It will hurt you though, be warned.

yeh, life goes on sort of thing, but there are three trans characters in the group, and the real growth was with mako-chan who commits to transition if I recall
>>
>>41261655
Yes. Mako got her conclusion but Yoshino and Nitorin did not. Even then, we never actually see the transition. It's inconclusive as I said earlier. Last time I read it I just felt like I got nothing out of it, nothing happened in the ending. Most people interpret it as "and then, Nitorin suffered forever", which is just terrible after seeing her entire childhood.
>>

I guess, I mean it was from the 00s and not meant to be a super conclusive story arc either
but if I recall around the early 10s ppl were also hyped up that characters in some korra cartoon held hands for a few seconds
so I kinda forgave a lot of the inadequacies tbqh
>>
it is one of my favourite mangas
i like the slow pace and how they gradually get older
it made me envious at first when they were just kids and crossdressing, but as mc got closer and closer to my age it got more relatable
>>
Good ol' Bukharin, had trouble grasping the dialectical method but it was ok because he was a nice fellow.
