>A study by researchers at the University of Melbourne in Australia and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), published this week in Nature Medicine, analyzed over 5,000 proteins from the blood samples of 40 transgender Australians who underwent hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with estradiol and an antiandrogen. What they found is that, after mere months of HRT, trans women’s bodies may change down to the molecular level.

>“This highlights that human biology is malleable and that even in adulthood, our bodies respond to sex hormone changes,” co-author Dr. Boris Novakovic said in a press release about the project. In other words, the endeavor shows the true range and plasticity of human bodies, including the idea of sex, which many gender conservatives falsely argue is immutable, binary, and stagnant.

>These antiquated notions of sex have been used to justify segregation in everything from bathrooms to sports to competitions like e-sports and chess.

>Beyond the gender culture wars, however, the study serves a more tangible and utilitarian function: helping inform our understanding of gender medicine, so trans people can have the best quality of care and health outcomes. HRT, like any medical treatment, can have side effects—both for trans people and cisgender people, who have been safely and effectively using hormone therapy for decades to treat everything from acne to erectile dysfunction.

>“For transgender women, we found gender affirming hormone therapy alters the levels of many protein biomarkers,” Novakovic said, noting that this could impact risk assessments for things like autoimmune disease and heart conditions. Usually, these assessments factor in any number of variables, including sex as well as lifestyle or genetic components.

>take female hormones
>they activate female genes

groundbreaking. how about those teeny tiny gametes, though?

> A woman is born with all the eggs she will ever have
> A woman is *not capable of producing* female gametes unless she's carrying female fetuses (then the fetus grows her own ovaries and all the eggs she might ever have).
> This is unlike men, who do continously produce sperm throught their lives
> ~10% of childbearing age women are infertile
> Postmenopausal women are infertile
> Pre-menarche girls are infertile

Trans women are infertile, but infertile women are women.

Males produce sperm, or have the structures to facilitate it.
TiMs produce sperm, or have the structures (even if partially removed, or the tissues rearranged) to facilitate it.
Therefore........

>muh gametes muh ova muh large gametes
>no postmenopausal are still women despite not having ova because... THEY JUST ARE OKAY!
>>
>>41451847
if the tissues are rearranged how is it the same structure? hasn't the structure literally been altered?

I know you want to suck my gametes out of my gamete transport system but this level of obsession is unhealthy.

This is a weird thing to get excited about. Liver responds to estrogen; news at 10.
My blood proteins are about as relevant to my daily life as my theoretical or actual gametes.

no it's different because it is validating

I mean fair enough but I'm just saying...
Blood hemoglobin shifts to female range quickly because high hemoglobin is a direct effect of testosterone and red blood cells have limited lifespans.
SHBG goes up, HDL goes up, clotting factors go up. These are direct effects of estrogen (and for SHBG also the loss of T pushing it down).
Sex hormones are how your gonads tell the rest of your body which gametes you produce so your body can prepare to function like a that gamete producer. That's why gonad failure or hormone receptor mutations can have such profound effects on development.

idc its just funny when people choose which molecules are determinitve of sex and which are completely irrelevant depending on their side of the argument
>>
>>41451847
TiMs on 3 months or more of HRT usially do not produce (viable) sperm.
TiMs and males who had an orchiectomy do not produce sperm (or ova)
XY CAIS people do not produce sperm (or ova)
XX women who suffer from ovarian depletion menstruate but do not produce ova (or sperm)
Therefore...

Amazing how much stupid obvious stuff doctors don't see because they are more interested in transphobia. There's probably some paper showing proteins are different in men and women and of course they interpreted that as if trans women are men even though that makes no sense given the mechanism. So now they're excited even though this should've been stupid obvious to anyone who thought about it for more than 10 seconds or didn't have transphobia clouding their brains.

side story: I was once told I couldn't get stds because I don't have a penis anymore and my neovagina is apparently immune

Im older, doctors are some of the dumbest motherfuckers I have had to deal with. I didn't start out this way. I remember being young, and completely confused by old people that hate doctors.

Then I started having knee problems as a teen. Over a decade and a half I ended up seeing 15-20 different providers for my knees. Got told over and over I just needed to do physical therapy. Did physical therapy and it didnt work. Got diagnosed with patella-femoral pain syndrome, aka your knees hurt and we dont know why. Finally found a doctor that would authorize and MRI. We discovered I had moderate arthritis going on at the age of 30, and all the exercise out of it advice had just been making things worse. This doctor controlled the inflammation and bam, knees are fine save for all the damage they took. Literally no reason this couldn't have happened when I was 16 except doctors are retarded. American medicine, folks.

how much do they pay you to post here
or do you
>do it for free
>>
>>41452389
But arthritis is rare in young people! (Doctors hear a statement like that and think it means "doesn't occur.")
Getting SRS and transitioning generally has made it really obvious to me, but I see it in all kinds of other fields. Idk how people act like doctors are some kind of trustworthy gods.

During the "you can't even get stds" episode I was told over and over again that I had a yeast infection despite no symptoms and no yeast on microscope smear. His "training" said trans women can only get yeast infections. Then it turned to "well it's probably normal since it's artificial." Eventually I got antibiotics from a different doctor, and there was no reason it needed to take multiple years to treat vaginosis.
Ofc it was AEROBIC vaginosis and if you go read on the history of that (and BV in general) you'll learn cis women hardly fare better. Being trans just adds on another useless layer where they get to throw their hands up and claim you don't even need any gynecological care since you're not even female, even as you sit there complaining about your pussy's health.

Fuck that. Glad the doc I saw diagnosed arthritis early as teen.

The real answer is it's all context dependent. Nobody's using my chromosomes or my blood proteins to decide which restroom I use because it's too impractical. They're using their eyeballs and their earballs and their internal biases and such. Being literally unambiguously medically female can't even save you sometimes.
>>41452200
What really scares me is how much I hear this shit from first responders, or at least people claiming to be first responders.
One guy tried to tell me they'd need to know my biological sex to emergency intubate me correctly. And like I hope they look at the actual patient because I'm AMAB but I extremely obviously didn't develop that way.
Some asshole's gonna insist I have a male airway or something and kill me.
>>
>>41453577
I once had a nurse insist I am male and should be able to pee into a bottle and she was very mean about how I don't have a penis when I would make a mess (cis women would've been given a bedpan of course)
so yeah they do whatever they can to abuse us
>>
>>41453761
I tend to get the opposite experience but I've got one for you.
I had been SA'd two days prior and I was injured in an awkward place and worried it might be getting infected so I went to an urgent care about it.
The doctor entered my room and the first words out of her mouth?
"So you're telling me you have a penis."
Believe it or not it went downhill from there.
She decided that the human bite marks were herpes sores and swabbed them. She described my assailant as a "new sexual partner" and about chastised me for not getting STD tests *before* the assault.
At the very end I guess she had a change of heart and encouraged me to go to the ER to report the assault.
Herpes tests were negative.
Fuck doctors.
>>
>>41455640
lol I got raped and since I didn't have a doctor after the vaginosis episode called around to beg for std tests and got told I was a male and it wasn't needed (I didn't want to tell the receptionist I was raped and somehow trigger a police investigation so I just pretended I wanted it to be sure)
I finally saw a urologist about something completely unrelated and thankfully she had some sympathy and did the tests

my instinct to not call it rape it was apparently correct because now that it's in the chart every time I see a doctor they bring it up like it's a defining moment of my life and history and not something I would rather forget (odd they get more excited about that than my actual medical history)
>>
>>41455640
and i can't imagine how an emergency room would treat a trans woman in that situation. probably throw us out or call the police to come arrest us. i was terrified the police would find out and arrest me for tricking him or whatever.

god and now I'm so worked up I guess I'm not going to go meet my friends tonight. I hate this
>>
>>41455732
Sorry that was triggering :(
And sorry for how they treated you.
>>
>>41455778
it's just so screwed up how this shut affects us and how the reaction of basically the entire world is to cause further harm
