I used to hold views like this when I was younger, but I stopped around the time I was 23. By the time I was 26 I became a gender abolitionist because I had had enough exposure to different people from any one label to realize labels are just kind of dumb and don't inform individual character. Gender is almost analogous to race, in that sense. It has lived experiences, commonality, shared suffering, and privilege, but it is all ultimately something we socially agree to uphold, and we could honestly stop viewing the world in terms of race or gender or sex at any time.

I personally have hope. Most people aren't racist anymore. Most people are unfortunately sexist, and a staggering amount are transphobic. But society is improving.

Also I guess part of it is that honestly group label is really political? Whether or not you realize it, sex, race, gender, they're voting blocs *because* they share a common risk for harm, so they have to self identify and group together under our current social systems to enact change and progress for the labels given to each individual voter. But I think insidiously viewing it this way also reveals why labels are perpetuated in society: you're a voting bloc.

That's a bit grim, isn't it? Sometimes I think in gender abolitionism in the sense of political manipulation by politicians hoping to keep people divided from more concerning issues. We make a big fuss over issues of race or nationality or gender and then solve those imaginary issues, and really just have nothing done by the end of the day. If we all just agreed to be nice and follow the golden rule of treat others as you would like to be treated, then we would literally live in a perfect society.

I've had this view before when being a gender abolitionist during my earlier times when I wouldn't really call myself one and still had some views that I now think are bad, and the synthesis I've come to is honestly this: self labeling is just self description, and people should just be left to their own devices to decide happiness for themselves if it is acceptable in polite society.

There is nothing impolite about people wanting to physically look like the opposite sex through hormones. I literally could not care less. It does not offend me and I would address any person who was like that and solely like that, with the respect they deserve. This includes iding them as they want to be id'd, and being mature enough to recognize that those identifications do not inform me of anything about their character or life.

People are open books and you just gotta read them and be genuine instead of writing schizo fanfic in your head because they had the wrong type of penis or a different skin color. This is how we become adults.

I think it's healthy and great that you realize gender should not effect how you treat any individual, since you would just be making assumptions about them. I treat people's belief in gender the same as belief in religion or astrology.
