But I do feel silly for not realizing that politicians ofc often would like to go further than what seems politically feasible at the moment of an election, and the momentum can shift and new things can become possible. They're floating or implementing things like treating transgenderism as a mental illness in questions of fitness for military service or gun ownership, legalizing conversion therapy, prosecuting doctors involved in underage transitioning, etc. It's a careful assault only on certain positions around the edges, but it IS an assault, and if they take those positions they might keep pushing deeper into territory that currently seems securely captured. I failed to have political imagination, and I humbly admit my transgender acquaintance who argued with me was actually correct.
