Is there a point where trans men/women stop taking hrt? Or is it a lifelong thing?
>>
It's lifelong but it gets modified over time, they can lower the dose and go off of blockers after a while usually.

I saw one paper proposing a simulated menopause at around age 60 (going off of HRT) but considering cis women take the same stuff to prevent menopause I don't know if that has any advantages.
>>
yeah at this point even cis people take hrt in their 60s and 70s

If you don't have your gonads removed, you can stop if you want--but most people don't want. Some of the changes trans people tend to value require HRT maintenance.

If you do have your gonads removed, you need some kind of hormone supplementation to keep your body in good health.

I've been off two times in like 16 years of HRT. each time I resumed as soon as I could.

Why do you ask, OP?

Just curiosity, I've not met trans people who've been on it for over a decade and the question popped into my head.

Oh, I see. I know many. for most, it's very bad for our mental health to stop. I get suicidally depressed within a month after discontinuation.

Generally it's for life, but i only inject once a week so it's not a big deal.

Also going off hormones is not that big a deal. Trannies love to overdramatize this but I had a friend who was post orchi and went off it for a month. You basically just function as a eunuch and adjust to low hormone levels. Your adrenal glands also produce T. Side effects of low T like osteoporosis or alzheimers don't appear until late middle age generally.

I go on and off hrt every few months because I'm satisfied with my appearance
