>>42095025>>42095064basically my understanding is that what happened is in america they made laws that food companies had to report any allergens in their products, so for liability reasons food companies just started saying every food "may contain" every one of the allergens specifically addressed by the law. upside is they can't get sued if someone has an allergic reaction and downside is literally nothing. that's why everything used to have a little bit at the end of the label that says "may contain peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, [etc.]"but then the regulators didn't like them doing that so they said (via some legally forceful mechanism) that they can't just say something "may contain" shit that shouldn't realistically be in there and that food companies should take reasonable measures to keep those common allergens out of their products in the same way they need to keep microbial contamination out, unless of course the allergen in question was an actual ingredient. so naturally food companies started just deliberately adding small amounts of all of the legislated allergens to all of their food and changed the label from "may contain" to "contains traces of". honestly the stranger thing is that it doesn't also have eggs, fish and all the other things in it

Maybe there is sone ingredient derived from shrimp shells but what is far more likely is the same factory which produces it handles carmine so they tick that box to be safe. Bugs are not crawling onto the conveyor and certainly not in a shake factory. I have no idea what you imagine those places to be like but having worked in them I can tell you you're wrong.
