Ok I feel bad for making fun of her for not knowing how to wear pants so now I will give advice to make up for it:
If you want to cinch your waist with a belt don't wear a pair up pants up to your waist. Instead wear a long dress and use a belt around your waist as an accessory. There are really very few other circumstances I can even think of in which a belt should be worn directly around the waist
