not to sound like a sneedy reddit atheist but how the fuck does anyone actually believe in abrahamic religions? i dont mean having personal spirituality and faith, i mean actually believing that there is an omnipotent god who punishes you for injecting the wrong hormones and having butt sex, how the fuck is this still a pertinent political position in the information age?

It’s legit a form of mental retardation and schizophrenia. I’ve watched like three previously sane people fuck up their brains permanently with drugs and then become super religious out of nowhere. It’s creepy as fuck. It’s like they died and are being skinwalked by a retard.

Wow that image is like professional ranked misogyny wtf.

childhood abuse, social pressure, lack of satisfying alternatives

You grow up with it and never develop a reason to question it is probably the biggest reason. I also think the authoritarian nature of them and their superficial concerns with social justice are appealing depending on what kind of person you are as well.

It's amazing that anyone took that pseud pill addict seriously when the basis of his work is meaningless bullshit like this
>>
>>42113927
people pretend to believe because being atheist is seen as cringe
>>
>>42113927
spirituality is also retarded. if you're into that shit you can't really criticise structured religion. you believe in magic too.
>>
>>42113927
i believe god(s) of some kind but i think it's pretty dumb to be a dogmatic follower of one particular religion
>>
>>42113927
it's all bullshit
it's the same basis for illegitimate "ideologies" like being any kind of right-wing or conservative of denying reality in favor of whatever you want, fear, imagine, or are told: faith
stop tolerating faith

most christians don't actually believe in god or the bible
they don't live as if they're scared for their eternal soul. They don't genuinely attempt to avoid sin, live righteously, or repent for their sins. When people die, they don't act happy, as if they're in heaven, even if those people were christians. And when they think they're going to die, they also don't act like they're going to heaven. They're terrified of death and religion is less of a true belief and more of a sad desperate cope.
the only reason religion is respected at all and religious people have special rights is because they've spent thousands of years persecuting and murdering everyone who says "actually wizards aren't real". Even today in modern western societies, there are so many religious people that if you say "wizards aren't real", they will try to ruin your life over it, and demand protections and recognition from the government.
we seriously need something like what the japanese got at the end of world war 2, where the americans forced the emperor to publicly admit that he wasn't actually a kami.

jesus is pretty cool, and people sometimes make the mistaken inference from that that the institutions and people claiming to speak for jesus today are correct
if you read the bible today without any prior cultural knowledge about what "hell" is supposed to be, you would probably not come up with the same thing the catholic church or most conservative protestant denominations believe in
the closest you get to it in the text is the parable jesus tells about lazarus and the rich man, and it's far from obvious that this is supposed to be literal. even martin luther didn't think it was supposed to be a literal depiction of the afterlife.
