Prog rock diehards and tryhards will tell you they aren't really prog, especially after the first couple albums. I think their singles are all fun (I had Mr Blue Sky on repeat earlier this year), but if you want classic prog sound, go for ELP instead.

Foxtrot is pretty solid. Get Genesis Live instead of a compilation tho. They were kinda kick ass live.

The classic albums are Fragile and Close to the Edge, which are cleanly symphonic rock, but I like The Yes Album, where they're still kinda folk pop kinda art rock. I'm dumb. Try Clap, Starship Trooper and Your Move/All Good People for my faves.
And then, I dunno, Tull's Thick as a Brick for long shit and Crimso's Red for heavy shit and Procol Harum's Salty Dog for seaside shit or something like that.

I can't deny that.
They were the best band ever because they said they were. If you had a sidelong track, they had a side-and-a-half long track. With an armadillo tank on the cover. And a flying piano.
Far, far from serious, but a lot of fun if you want to get caught up in speedy keyboards and boppin' drums.
