Being trans is more socially stigmatised. Being gay is more acceptable but still kind of embarrassing in some contexts.

If you're a passing trans woman, no one will bat an eyelid, even if you're with your male partner in public. If you're gay, and you're clearly the bottom, it's a lot more embarrassing to walk around holding hands with your boyfriend in public... I guess.
