>Girlfriend/forever-fiancee mentions the film Lupe to me
>Tells me its a good example of how to do a story where a trans girl isn't a victim
>Tells me its fictional
>Compares it to John Woo martial art movies
>The imagery and everything shows it to be about a fighter who can kick people's asses

>Turns out its just a realistic transition story where (spoiler warning if you care) she loses all her friends and family and MAYBE has a chance to meet one or two of them again someday maybe. Reminds me of how straight men are fucking assholes

God I am just... so... so... tired...

I really don’t enjoy movies with trans themes or narratives desu. I find them all really poorly done.
>Reminds me of how straight men are fucking assholes
If this is the takeaway of the film then I will pass on this one too.

OP here.
Anon... you shouldn't do that to yourself. The film is good. It just upset me because I used to follow a channel religiously on youtube where this black guy talked about certain subjects who seemed really intelligent and chill and well-adjusted with good ideas until he posted a couple videos that were transphobic as fuck. This upset me to the point that I couldn't appreciate the film for a moment, partly cuz I went in expecting semi-fantasy and got realism, but also partly because it featured a straight black toxically male black guy doing what, unfortunately, toxically male straight black guys do and made this thread. There wasn't really transphobic violence iirc and it did show a trans girl being strong.

We need to take what we can get thats good representation so that we don't get so into our heads that we feel powerless. If you don't see positive representation of trans people then you will inevitably have a bad mental conception of your transness.

I'm not saying you need to watch this specifically per se, but I am saying that with what you said, actually, maybe you really should watch it and not listen to my depressed hopeless ramblings.

I'm just tired right now and honestly I am also a bit sick right now with some kinda cold.

The takeaway was not about the one straight dude who stopped being her friend. It was about not overloading yourself trying to take all the burden in the world onto your shoulders and being strong enough to move your life on. I'm just venting because of all the things going on. Triggers are unpredictable and random.

To be clear, that isn't a racist observation its just... true. Black men have an issue with toxic masculinity and its something black people need to work on our something idk its a little... out of my expertise because I'm still working through some things, it would seem... but it is unfortunately true just to clarify where I am coming from here. It is a specific form of bigotry.

Figureed I'd try to clarify that in case someone's tried to use this thread to say something else. Not that I expect they still wouldn't, but maybe theres a chance that saying all this will help someone stay grounded in reality or whatever.

Hopefully I didn't fuck this explanation up somehow and say something I didn't realize I was saying, but there it is.
