I was into Theravada for a while but it still has problems with homophobia and misogyny. Also I ended up believing in eternal return over rebirth
>>42332914Because the average western homosexual would get to the point about the self being an illusion and immediately get turned off to Buddhism because even if they follow a sect that says homosexuality is fine, the act of constantly reaffirming that identity by not shutting up about being a homosexual would probably land them another round of Samsara.T. Homosexual with a passive interest in Buddhism.
Because the end goal is literally erasing your own existence ("final extinguishment") and they claim permanent heavens dont exist I understand its helpful for people who grew up in the oppressive Abrahamic religions because it's an alternative that is very thorough but at the end of the day its also a belief system that requires faith in certain things like every single religion. Not to mention the victim blaming of the concept of karma, but hindus are even worse about it because they believe its justified for victims to be blamed for the abuse they faced. Buddhists at least acknowledge that such a concept is cruel. t. grew up in a hindu cult and then studied buddhism seriously to the point of planning to ordain as a monk in retirement or late adulthood and it made my ocd severely worse and also messed up my outlook on life for years
