This thread is for anything hair related. This is lgbt related for obvious reasons.

Discuss hairstyles, hair care, products, salons/barbers, hair removal, T-induced hair growth, lash extensions, finasteride/minoxidil, etc etc. really anything hair related.

QOTT: What's your next hairstyle going to be?

What are you supposed to wear when sleeping to prevent hair damage? I might just resort to one of those full hair caps because nothing else is working...
>>
>>42661824
yeah i use one of those hair caps with satin on the inside. usually i put my hair in a loose ponytail using a satin scrunchie, then wrangle it all in there, then it comes out looking a lot nicer than it otherwise would've.
>>
>>42660357

>qott not bangs. Never bangs but I do need to trim it.

I think the best thing to do for your hair is wash it in cold water only! A bit of leave in conditioner when it gets frizzy helps. Keeping it braided I feel helps alot too

>>42660357
Imagine if I got to be her boyfriend
>>
>>42661824
They're called bonnets! Usually worn by people with curly hair, but it's good for any hair texture. Higher end ones will be made of silk, cheaper ones out of polyester satin material. Any hair store in an area w/ a lot of black people will have em in stock.
>>42663027
I've heard this advice sooo sooo much but I love my warm showers :( I've also heard soft water is good for your hair, might get an RV water softener and hook it up in the shower.

Please explain your take on bangs. Genuinely looking for reasons why or why not. I see basically all the other asian girlies rocking em, so the preliminary plan is to get hash cut style bangs + face framing pieces while leaving it super long in the back.

my hair is fucked and it makes me want to kill myself

>let myself go to norwood 6, except the the middle was down to clear peach fuzz, only my temples went slick bald
>thought it would slam the door shut on the tranny thoughts
>after a couple years of HRT the middle is packed with thin, 1-3" long lightly colored hairs that refuse to grow any longer
>every other part of my transition is going great, my skeletal measurements are at the upper end of cisfem range, the only masculine traits on my face are things that FFS can fix, fat distribution is going great, im growing a nice set of tits, i have a nice full ass
>if those damned thin hairs would just go terminal all I would need is a hair transplant for the temples and I would be a giga lateshit, luckshit passoid
>have started dumping minoxidil on it every day out of desperation

god damn it I just want the center back! please, universe! please! T_T
>>
>>42663984
That wouldn't make sense, they have the long hair of a girl
>>
>>42664050
The good news is that if your biggest clock is hair then there are genuinely a lot of options to fix it. I've seen trans women go from never passing to stealth thanks to a transplant a year or two of growing it back. Even then you have wigs which get a bad name but can be super pretty.
>>
>>42664050
I've seen minoxidil and finasteride pull some genuine miracles, stick with it for a while.

I've tried everything and most things leave painful bruises on you or less tension on your hair that will snap it in your sleep. What I do is wrap my hair around my hand then fuck it into my shirt. Then I pull out about half of it so it rests on my shoulder and rotate my neck around to make sure there's no tension and sleep.

Be careful around seabelts and sitting down always grabbing your hair and moving it in front of you.

Be careful around vacuums and fans or it will get ripped apart like mine did.

Its an ok idea like a 80% it won't do anything compared to just taking the estrogen, also 0.2mg a day is enough.

Might not be a bad idea to get your DHT checked and see if you even have to. Fin prevents the creation of neuroprotective steroids and can have other side effects. The lest pharmaceuticals you can take the better.

I started using Tsubaki premium ex hair mask 2x a week right after conditioner and it's really done wonders for me! I have wavy mediterranean hair that's around a 2B. It used to be frizzy and dry no matter what I did and now I'm really happy with my hair for the first time that I can remember.

hi hair people can someone give me the rundown on bangs. i have have curtains but i think i want to shorten them up to cover my forehead. see picrel (me on the left, what i want on the right).

what i want to know is with my hair texture (thick & wavy to slightly curly) do you have to treat your bangs differently than the rest of your hair? i usually just condition everything and sometimes help my curls clump with gel/mousse. but im worried that with short bangs they'll curl/clump too much and look weird, or if i don't condition/gel them, they'll look dry and frizzy. is there a secret to how she gets her bangs to lay flat like that. do i have to straighten my bangs separately from the rest of my hair after drying? do i condition and scrunch them like the rest of my hair?
>>
>>42663663
My face isn't shaped nicely for bangs. Some chicas can rock em but I know I would look ugly with them.

First of all your hair is sooooo amazing and I'm a little jealous. Second, your hair should be able to fall into the bangs like on the right photo without a bunch of styling. It seems thin enough to be manageable.
>>42666130
You can cut more of your hair into the bangs portion. Looks kinda like a styling mistake, maybe? Can ask a stylist to do this too.
>>42666112
Fine hair will hold volume easy!!! if you want, get a perm done for some waves, or get a layered cut and use voluming powder.

hair masks are a game changer, I wish I started using them earlier!!

the curtain bangs + shag + faceframing layers is kinda a vibe nona… if you have that super straight 1A azn hair it’s gonna take some blowdrying to set up but once you do i think it looks really good

i would like to know how to get more volume out of my hair though, preferably without product because i hate how it feels in my hair. do i just need to get shaggier/shorter layers? like have them end sooner close to my face. or do i just have to suck it up and get a mousse or sumthin

is it better to part your hair left or right or center
which is more feminine and which is masculine ?
what if you have a crooked nose should you part it with the crook or against it ?
does it matter if one side is your "good side"?

not sure what to do with my hair. i haven't gotten a haircut in 9 months now (embarrassing to admit) because the last time i did the hairstylist commented that i had a "very angular face" and made me cry. its just grown out nothing right now its kind of a mess and it doesn't look good. i don't know what to do with it. i don't know if i should get bangs i don't know, idk. i hate it and i hate the way i look and i need a change.

Worst case scenario you can shave it all off and say you have alopecia. I know an older trans woman who did that and shes still stealth in most of her social life somehow.

Simple question for me: I am a pooner and I haven't gotten my hair cut at all in like 10 years so I look kind of homeless. Should I cut it short and have a normal haircut or should I continue looking like a person of unhoused experience. I'm trying to attract a twink boyfriend if it's relevant.
>>
>>42669472
there’s a reason there’s a sticker there, let me put it that way lol
being trans is trial and error in minimizing maleness, whether it be hair or makeup or anglefrauding or whatever. don’t be discouraged nona, figuring this shit out takes time and effort but keep at it and you’ll get where you wanna be <3

>What are you supposed to wear when sleeping to prevent hair damage? I might just resort to one of those full hair caps because nothing else is working...

Get a couple big satin scarfs for cheap. Look up ways to tie it on youtube. I prefer this to a bonnet because you can do it different ways and use it more like a headband if you want your scalp to get air.

Alternatively, just braid, bun, or twist it up and use satin pillowcases.

This is probably not necessary unless you have curly or kinky hair or you're aiming for serious length.

Would a scarf or bonnet be more effective than braiding or buns? I do want to get some serious length desu.

I think it would be cute if the sides and your bangs were a bit longer. Like the side down to your chin and maybe asymmetrical bangs. You definitely have the face shape for short, short hair

>youre much prettier than picrel though

just wash your hair in warm water and rinse it with cold one. You don't need to do cold water to clean your hair (unless you have a coloration, then warm and hot water will wash out colours).

Also for the water softener you can spray diluted cider vinegar in your hair, keep it a few minutes before rinsing. It helps remove any mineral buildup there may be.
>>
>>42673867
youre giving cis lesbian woman. cool and "alternative". has probably lived a more interesting life than most people. if you're nonbinary or something im sorry you look like the kind of person who might say they're nonbinary. and i would respect that. you're definitely a bit boyish, but not in a "you look male" way
>>
>>42674576
Using a shampoo in warm water washes out the natural oils that protect you hair.
>>
>>42674604
Most shampoo won't clean shit if you only use cold water. You do need to like, remove pollutants and stuff or your hairs will get worse and worse over time.

Also too much natural oil and your hair will look bad anyways. Personally if I ever run into the "my hair lacks oil" situation I just use a bit of grapeseed oil.

Cold water is only really recommended if you've got a coloration.

hi friends! how r we feelin bout the hair? does it go well with my girlmode or is it too androgynous/faggy lookin? maybe its time for some orange/blondeish highlights again, just to shift the focus a bit away from my face x_x help me nonas..

>>42666130
make sure ur shampooing enough and consistently enough (also dobule shampooing) to have them clump up less. use a bit of dry shampoo on ur bangs to help keep them nice and low and volumous
>>42666208
condition them and scrunch them, again just make sure ur shampooing well and that most importantly ur not using a super strong styling product like a strong gel or mousse. make sure they dry well, maybe with a blow dryer to keep them straighter. dry shampoo
>>42669209
an important part of volume but one that ppl dont notice as much is making sure the hair on top of ur head isnt too flat. maybe ur struggling with that, get some root lift mousse or something from l'oreal profissionel. idk bout ur straight hair type but without product ig u can blow dry upside down with a diffusor to not dry out ur hair too much, dont sleep on damp hair to not flatten the shit out of it, etc. condition well during wash days. and yes sometimes ur hair is rly dense (density is not the same as follicle thickness!!! just a lot of hairs on ur head rly) and layers help with that
>>
>>42668593
nah u don't need em get some layers around ur face tho
>>
>>42669209
Perms are super common for some added volume, but they can be pricy depending on the salon. Hair volumizing product won't do anything for thick azn hair without lots of layers.

Part your hair how you want, then tie off into two ponytails to hold it in place for a while to set a new part

yeah ik I've tried setting it when it's wet and everything. it just feels like there's not as much hair on that side cause of the side part damaging it over time or something.

>Would a scarf or bonnet be more effective than braiding or buns? I do want to get some serious length desu.

It's an individual thing. in my case, my hair is quite curly and I'm black so it's a little harder to do high-manipulation styles like braiding. I put it up in a "pineapple"/ponytail and tie a scarf loosely and call it a day. If you're white with a straighter hair texture it might be easier to throw it into a braid and sleep on an inexpensive satin pillowcase. but it's truly up to you.

The part of your hair that is going to need the most gentle treatment as you grow it out is the ends. That's the oldest part of your hair strand and has been exposed to the most friction from rough surfaces and wind and brushing, hot water, heat styling, blowdrying, UV, whatever. If you can minimize the damage you get more retention of the growing your hair does without split ends or breaking.

Just experiment a little with what's most comfortable for you. Whatever way to make sure your hair is secured a little and isn't ground into a flannel pillowcase all night is fine. I've found a lot of growing out hair without super tattered ends is not so much about particular products or tools as just finding little ways to minimize damage that are EASY for me and relatively pleasant, so I always do it.
>>
