calling all french trannies. im an american and have the opportunity to move to france within the next 2 years, and im seeking info on what its like being a tranny in france. i have a few basic questions.

>overall experience/government treatment of trans people. how is it?
>hrt prescription doable or just stick with diy?
>english speaking... wide-spread or no? my opportunity is in caen. looking into starting to practice french using anki in meantime.
>public perception of trannies there? are french citizens accepting or hostile?
>access to other local tranny communities out there? do you see other trannies semi-often at least?
>getting a job/housing as an amerifag immigrant.. doable?
>any other essential info to know for quality of life out there?
>>
t. french but not a tranny (I'm straight actually)

idk about tranny related issues but ig it's pretty much like in the rest of the western world. Most people don't care just don't go near black people and arabs too much.

>english-speaking
It's alright when you stick to big cities. Caen is pretty big so you should always find people who can speak english. People always have more sympathy for foreigners that actually try to speak the language but they wouldn't mind too much if you can't speak french properly. We have a reputation for being rather cold with stranger, it's true to some extent but don't let it get to you it's the same for everyone.

>access to local tranny communties
since Caen is kinda big you should easily find lgbt centers with trannies ig. Idk much since I'm not lgbt but we're kinda progressive as a cuntry so.

>getting a job as an american immigrant
if you have a degree sure but the market isn't at its best right now so idk. You can always find minimum wage jobs though.
>housing
Pretty much the same as the rest of the western world. Boomers own most of the housing and the prices are really high. A well paying job isn't always enough. Idk you can always find somewhere to live ig but it won't be cheap especially in more urbanized area. It's easier if you can get a car or use public transportation and find housing outside the big cities.
>any other info
The weather is kinda shit in Caen (Normandy) but it's alright. It's not the worst city you can go to ig.

anyway good luck to you fren

woah this is super helpful!!!! thank you for taking the time to respond

>if you have a degree sure
haha unfortunately no.. my partner is the one whos moving into a job bc of her degree. im just a boring barista. ill likely work at a minimum wage coffee shop with my experience, my partner is the real breadwinner of the house.
>Caen is pretty big so you should always find people who can speak english
thats a huge relief. i definitely still want to integrate and learn properly so i dont stick out as much, but for the first few years that means i hopefully wont be too embarassing!

you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job as a barista but it helps if you can speak and understand basic french bc french people can speak rather fast especially the younger generations, plus they are less articulate. but it's fine, in my city we have an older ukrainian woman refugee that couldn't speak a word in french except for "bonjour", "au revoir" and stuff yet she managed a job as a cashier at my local convenience store she's doing fine.

As for Caen when I say big I mean like "french big" like it has 100k inhabitants so for an American it may not serm very big but in France even with less people it can look rather big becase the cities usually are more dense idk if you see what I mean
