Note that it's not symmetrical (a 30 yr old dating 60 breaks the rule by 7 but is a million times less weird than an 18 year old dating a 9 year old and breaking the rule by 7), the older the get, until about 28-30, the less weird it is to make big gaps.But the divided by 2 plus 7 is a pretty good guide to avoid it being weird at all
