Has anyone ever got off all/most chat apps and social medias? Whats your experience like?
>>
Yes literally nothing changes and I just feel more lonely, most overrated thing honestly
>>
>>42784256
Sorry are you saying the apps are overrated or getting off them is overrated
>>
Yeah I quit social media after high school. I just enjoy life
>>
>>42784189
i've largely gotten off the internet in general. it feels really really good. i'm no longer mentally exhausted all of the time. i only come on here for something to do when i'm committing time theft in my workplace bathroom now.
>>
>>42784218
yeah i've been looking to get into that too
too bad all my online friends are bluepilled on technology
>>42784256
please go outside or start a hobby
and consooming content doesn't count
>>
>>42784189
No social media for over a year. I don't miss it at all.
>>
I have never had a social media presence. I am a basement dwelling chud that can’t even leave the house.
>>
>>42784189
I'm one of those weirdos who likes/follows/saves/repost stuff but never posts anything themselves
I've had my Instagram account since 2016, man
>>
>>42785143

I have mutiple hobbies and go outside regularly, neither of those fix me being a generally disliked person
>>
>>42784271

Leaving the apps is overrated
>>
>>42784189
even more lonely than before
however not having to see how much more wildly successful and normal all the people I knew in hs and college are probably helps me mentally
>>
I never got ON most "apps" to begin with.
I still use IRC, e-mail and niche forums. The only modern thingy I adopted is Telegram. That's it.

I ditched everything except for XMPP and email, bought a flip phone and deleted everything. Getting off social media was pretty healthy overall and made me more focused. I got a new job, started a company, quit drinking and got my life together in general over a few years. The downside is that the moment I stop being a workaholic I'm reminded that I'm alone in a family sized house and I can't find a girlfriend to save my life and the only people interested in me think I'm a top when I'm very much not.
Do it if you want, but have goals and prepare to be lonely as fuck.

don't waste your life making money you have no use for. make friends and live.
>>
>>42790860
Thanks, anon. I just noticed my most productive times were when I was off things like Discord, since so much of my mental energies go into maintaining that, online friends that just fizzle out sadly, dumb dramas, etc. Just having work shit and a few rl relations looks so much better rn
>>
>>42790880
I wish I could. It sounds cliche, but despite all the work to get where I'm at now, I just really wish I had someone to come home to. Someone to support and love and someone to hold me and share my life with. I make good money and I'm not even that old, but I still cry myself to sleep imagining the weight of all the blankets I've piled on is someone holding me.
>>42790898
It sounds kinda harsh, but if they aren't someone that you'd call and chat for half an hour on some random weekday just to catch up, it's worth asking yourself what the nature of your relationship truly is. All the drama and petty shit just cheapens your relationships and distracts you with cheap attention. Know who your friends really are and cherish them. Having goals you're working towards and surrounding yourself with quality people with healthy relationships will take you as far as you could ever want.

>I wish I could.
can't you?
>>
>>42790936
It's perfectly reasonable, not too harsh, for someone my age, but I feel the use of these kinds of apps is a holdover from when I was very time-rich and didn't care about quality connections.
>>
>>42790936
do you live in a rural area or something it can't be that impossible to find someone eventually, in any city there's probably hundreds of people who could potentially fit well both physically and metaphorically

I have friends, I just can't seem to get a girlfriend to save my life and I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. I never get hit on or flirted with or anything despite trying my best to be sociable. Someone once said I had "top energy" and now I'm worried that people think I'm something I'm not. Maybe it's a goofy thing to worry about, idk
>>42791059
Couldn't agree with you more. Very much the same with me.

> XMPP
Im thinking doing fediverse (social media) and matrix. Matrix seems better than xmpp

Fedi is okay in small doses. It's still just parasocial relationships with extra steps if you don't actually know them IRL. I think the parasocial aspect is the real killer for social media apps. I never bothered with Matrix.

Liberal East coast city. I just worry that "monogamous t4t relationship with intent to marry" might be a contradiction.
>>
>>42791153
Ah nevermind
I'm in a liberal city as well and I'm thinking of moving back to Asia eventually to go for a traditional monogamous relationship

have you tried the apps?
>>
>>42791153
> matrix
It has better apps and easier to use across phones and more secure. Plus i know a few servers you can make accounts using VPN/TOR with no PII.
>>
>>42784189
nobody has the answer here because 4chan is the same shit, whether it be algorithm driven dopamine or user submitted dopamine the scroll is the scroll and we're addicted
>>
>>42791575
I do not own a smartphone.
>>
>>42792140
