As someone who grew up with abusive parents, whom everyone treated/treats as innocent wonderful people and treats me as a provocateur who deserved whatever treatment I got, I feel nothing but sympathy for people who lash out against their families, knowing how often years of trauma and torment, all of which could have been avoided, preceded any sort of lashing out by the child, who was simply expected to take all the abuse and not complain, and nobody was ever going to help them.
