Because I'm reclined, and I'm effectively looking down, so my chin is sitting in my neck. Everybody looks terrible like that.You don't "look like that". Everyone looks like that when they're looking down. Stand up straight and take a pic from a reasonable distance from a mirror. Too close and you will get a fish eye effect from the lens - it makes the center of your face look bigger.
