squid are usually somewhere in the middle of the foodchainthey're carnivores and usually active hunters, mostly eating fish, shellfish, and other squid. Squid themselves are eaten by bigger, faster fish, whales and dolphins, and other squid. most squid only live about 1 year, they grow very quickly, reproduce, and then die. Because of this, squid are a common food source as their numbers replenish a lot more frequently than other animals.
