Definitely anime played a role in me figuring out who I was, but I never wanted to be an "anime girl" or anything. What anime did that hollywood didn't was show the variety of ways to be a girl. Tough girls, shy girls, funny girls, smart girls, cool girls, good girls, bad girls, so many girls all unique in their own way but all expressing femininity just the same. Not fitting in the hollywood mold of what a girl should be is an easy way to convince yourself your not one, but anime has a mold for every type of girl, so it was a lot easier to see myself as one of them.
