>>43095473i'm still not great with human faces but i've been drawing for a while and my biggest piece of advice is to use references. closely referencing and even tracing in private is enormously helpful, and it has to be something you WANT to draw. my personal favorite pieces to reference are usually 19th century statues, like le génie du mal or venus victrix.don't make the mistake of forcing yourself to follow guides and tutorials that just get you into loops of feeling disheartened and sticking to rigid guidelines that most likely won't mesh with what actually works best for you.

>>43096117yeah this is good advice t: bully anongotta make it enjoyable or you wont have the self control to keep practicing and if you have the VERY common brain worm of "using references is cheating" get rid of that as fast as you can. you wouldnt believe how much professional artists employ techniques that noobs call cheating in their art making process.also personally i used to have a brain worm that i gotta finish an art piece, drawing or song, in one sitting and returning to it later is somehow wrong. well in reality artworks can take weeks, months or even years to make from start to finish with all the prep work and everything. classical painters used to make multiple practice pieces to prepare to make the final one

>>43096117this, but emphasizing the want to draw thing, you can reference literally anything, so you should choose something you like, be it your pets or friends, memes, or random people online that you find hot. also, while it is usually best to reference from real life, because art often contains distortions, you can reference from art you like too, it can be helpful to see how other artists do things and you can steal their techniqueseven when I’m drawing something more cartoony and pulling the scene from my mind, I’ll still often stop and look at references or my own body to remind myself of what objects look like or how a limb may bend, grasp, or contort in a certain way
