>>43116411>these red states are on practice still about as socially conservative as they were in the 50s, just a tiny bit less racisti think you're underestimating how broadly socially conservative these places used to be. the level of hatred of queers hasn't changed much (some of them pretend to be fine with gays now but ask anyone who grew up there how sincere it is), but the tolerance of divorce, having kids outside of marriage, etc. has gone way up. that's in part out of necessity, they'd have no community left otherwise.
