Like, kathoey is literally anyone who is mildly transfeminine. Trans women, femboys, mildly effeminate gays, etc. They also have basically no legal rights. Emphasizing that trans women are women and trans men are men, despite its flaws, has been the single most successful means by which trans people have achieved legal rights.
