The point is that this ruling ONLY applies to speech conversion therapy, first of all.

During the therapy, the therapist that raised the issue apparently works for, and with, the client to reach their own specific targets.

However, if a client comes in and says "I am trans/gay, and I want to learn to feel more comfortable with my body/sexuality", that is fine.

If the client comes in and says "I'm gay/trans, but I don't want to be", the therapist wouldn't be able to do anything as they would fall foul of the law, despite the client's wishes.

Also, not so long ago, homosexuality and transgenderism were considered mental illnesses.

If the law as it stood was in place, therapists would not have been allowed to legally affirm your gender, if you are trans, or your homosexuality, if you are gay.
Because the order of things in those days was:
Cishet is normal, everything else is a lie. If a therapist affirms a lie, they should be struck off.

Imagine the law stands and transgenderism reverts to "mental illness" status.
Therapists would legally have to treat you the same way somebody with anorexia is treated.
