Legbutts, what is your opinion on california high-speed rail?
>>
It must happen but it's embarrassing.
>>
>>43126223
UK one was worse
>>
>>43126223
Mandatory high speed rail for EVERY state

There is literally no downside and only the FUCKING RETARDED have anything bad to say about the idea.
>>
i think yeah it sucks to be overbilled and undercompleted, and i also thing the picturing comparing japan to california is unfair because i imagine they have way different geography
>>
>>43126304
They do
This segment of california high speed rail runs through the central valley, a huge flat plain
the tohoku shinkansen runs over hilly farmland, near mountains, and generally difficult terrain
so it's actually even worse for california high speed rail

They’re expensive to build and maintain.
Wyoming only has 500k people and basically no taxes. HSR would bankrupt it instantly.
>>
>>43126350
Money is fucking fake the goventment can literally just command it be done and it'll happen they just don't because theyre lazy and hate us and it doesnt make billionaires any extra money.

The government literally has infinite resources and just pretends that they don't to keep us under control.
>>
>>43126223
way too fucking expensive. the ca gov will fuck it up royally. They can't even keep BART running. just get rid of the TSA and flying will be so convenient that its better than rail.
>>
would be extremely based but not gonna happen cause oil/car lobby
true detective was a documentary
>>
I'm a stern believer in California High Speed Rail, it might take forever but mark my words it will happen.
Yes it's mismanaged, but you pour the same amount of tax dollars into building highways and adding extra lanes to highways and nobody bats an eye. Oil lobbies are fighting the construction tooth and nail to stop it from happening but trains are the most efficient method of transportation. Fuck cars fuck planes, we need more TRAINS motherfucker.
>>
>>43126223
I think I must rail you at high speed.
>>
>>43126421
Even without the TSA you have to get at the airport way ahead of time, boarding and deboarding will still take forever, a flight from LA to SF including deboarding and 30m headtime would be 2h30m. HSR including 20m headtime would be 2h50m, infinitely more comfortable, and price competitive.

Japanese airport security is pretty painless but people still routinely HSR from Tokyo to Kyoto for a reason
>>
>>43128057
I think any opposers of rail if they spent 2 weeks in Germany or Japan theyd come around. Hell they can even just take some trips on Seattle's system during rush hour, it is shockingly nice
>>
I think bakersfield to merced is a lulzy way to do a HSR considering bakersfield is chud coal roller town and merced is nothing but almond and orange farms

That said, housing is getting built in the central valley on a massive scale, so perhaps it makes sense in the long run

Maybe those bakersfield chuds will eventaully get displaced by zoomlet transit numtots
>>
>>43126283
It sounds nice until you remember people have lice, fleas, and bed bugs... Even if we had them you would have to be cool with people who don't wash their hands, and maybe even scabies or COVID.
>>
>>43126223
Why would you use Japan as the counterexample, China has built like 10,000 miles of hsr in the last 15 years lol
>>
>>43129004
They let BART become a giant homeless shelter where people shoot up drugs, and they dont' release violent crime footage because "it could cause racisim". They need to run their shit like the axis powers if they want support that way.
>>
Are mutts uniquely violent and disgusting people? I get a train multiple times a week without catching hiv or getting skinned alive by roving tribes of rail nomads
>>
>>43128932
ive flown from sf to LA in less than 2:30, sucka
>>43129060
the problem with public transport is that its open to the public
>>43129208
im glad bart is shutting down
>>
>>43129234
I live in the US and I take the train every day but I'm also brown which means I'm the actual reason anti-rail people exist

Keep in mind American politics basically amounts to "we can't have _____ because what if a melanin monster benefits from it", that's how it is for everything whether it's transportation or public health or education or housing or whatever, white americans would gladly commit suicide before sharing a transportation mode with a nonwhite
>>
>>43129309
I feel more comfortable around a black guy in a suit than any other demographic. It's stinky homeless yelling at nothing and shitting their pants (this happened) and bluetooth speaker users that make me drive my car to work.
>>
>>43129331
So nonwhites need to put on suits to make you comfortable, well I guess that's one way to make rail happen, just force all minorities to dress up like doormen and waiters so people know that they're the help and you don't need to call the police
>>
>>43129359
hahah call me racist that is sure to make me support your side.
idk about forcing suits, but not wearing a shiesty would be a good start
>>
>>43129375
Don't worry I am not stupid enough to think you ever supported "my side" nor will you ever. I'm just helping the other anon understand the mysteries of American politics
>>
>>43129387
Very helpful ty
>>
>>43129234
>>43129309
Some girl literally just got murdered for riding public transport with you, we have good reason to avoid it.
>>
>>43129557
Wait until you find out about highways. Lots of people get murdered on... I think you call it "sharing the road", a misnomer but that is how it's put in this country:

https://news.google.com/search?q=road+rage+murder
>>
>>43129557
anon, you are not likely to be stabbed by a black person on a train. It is depressing that all it takes to make people think their gut feelings are super duper rational is to keep blasting a single news story at them and appeal to stereotypes.

>with you
is also insane. should I talk to you like you obviously rape people, because news of trans people who have done sex crimes gets amplified?
>>
>>43126223
honestly not bad distance for the cost
i haven't used it
>>
>>43126350
>doesn't know how much road infrastructure costs
>>
>>43126283
i wouldn't be surprised if this was the actual qwarzu considering how .uch she loves her own reaction images lol
>>
>>43129208
Yeah American public transport needs some security for this. Seattle and Portland started doing it and it helped a lot. Not a reason to oppose the mode of transit wholly
>>43129279
Fucking disgusting an antitrain retard talked to me. Stop talking like your opinion is worth anything
>>
>>43135487
Cities that can do that successfully are cities that haven't had a case of police violence on their mass transit.

BART had a case about 10 years ago where the cops dragged a guy off the train, cuffed his hands behind his back, laid him face down on the platform, and shot him execution style in the back of his head in front of hundreds of commuters.

NYC hasn't had it quite so bad but it's not great. Last year cops were going after a fare evader so needless to say they mag dumped at a crowded subway car and took out like 6 people plus the fare evader.

Cases like this make the public EXTREMELY hostile to any kind of law enforcement on the trains, they figure dealing with a shit-covered hobo every other day is better than getting murdered by a high school bully who will just get a promotion as a reward.
>>
>>43129148
Because that would fuel the arguments that say railfans are commies
