Like the South has some very liberal majority black and university towns surrounded by red, and even on the west coast if you step out of the cities it gets really red, like in the farming regions of California, southern Oregon, or eastern Washington. Like cultural regions exist, but values are more or less shared in the red sea vs. the blue islands where if you chunked off, say, New England, its red rural regions would start agitating to join up with the red parts of the Great Lakes or with the Southeast starting in Virginia or whatever.
