My boomer dad is a Democrat and he claims to support trans people, when I asked him why or how, he just says he believes in them and supports their rights but he cannot articulate anything specific. When I bring up famous trans people he struggles to call them he and she and switches between them and acts completely confused as to whether trans woman refers to a woman or a man and is unwilling to even verbally think out loud whether the term might refer to a man who became a woman or the opposite, he just briefly expresses confusion and then stops talking. If you asked him on a survey, do you support trans people, I'm sure he would say yes, but do you actually consider this sort of person an ally?

>>43235332I love asking people what they think of trans people because in most cases they sort of struggle to say they support people but clearly don't and hate the concept and the dissonance is fascinating and I always suppress giggles and have to struggle to keep a straight face but inside my mind is just 'xplodin. I mean yes there's country folks who probably would just say we don't believe in that, but there's a LOT of people who kinda say they support trans people but its just about not committing a social sin of icking on minorities like racism.
