Where do you get started with voice training?

What are the best beginner resources, and do you have any tips for babytroons?

The first video in the first playlist was a breakthrough for me after having already watched many of the @TransVoiceLessons videos
Don't get stuck in the limbo of just doing vocal exercises daily infinitely, that doesn't really do anything for you, voice training is more about breakthroughs of you discovering how to make your voice sound good than training any muscles over time (although there is a bit of that)

I skipped training and went straight to vocal surgery

What's the recovery like for vocal surgery?
>>
>>43281448
I went on total vocal rest for a month which was the absolute worst part of it. I used to say if I had to lose one sense/ability or whatever, it would be to talk. Not anymore.
When I started to talk again I had to relearn a few things like laughing. The scar is virtually nonexistent now, but at the time I used a neck scarf.

So how much did the cost end up being? What surgeon did you go for and are there any long term side effects

(Like I’ve heard it kills your ability to sing which is a dealbreaker for me since music is my hobby)

The Epstein School is an independent Jewish day school located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, United States.[1] It enrolls children from 18 months through eighth grade. The Head of School is Dr. David Abusch-Magder. The school has a summer camp.[2]

does your voice sound like the vocaroo above? would i be turned on having your voice too?
>>
>>43285074
I wouldn’t be asking about vocal surgery if it did
>>
>>43284758
It’s funny because I still get in my head sometimes over my voice but I know it’s fine. Crazy how important self love is.

>>43284785
I don’t know if I’d say I’m bubbly but I love a good shit talk session.

>>43284943
The total cost for me out of pocket was like $300 I think. I had surgery with Dr James Thomas in Portland. Long term side effects… I think I’d be better at answering specific questions, but I don’t think there’s much of anything. Yeah singing to an extent, but I’m confident that if I actually trained my voice to sing, I could still do it. I just can’t sing and the surgery didn’t help at all.
>>
>>43285119
i just jerked off wishing my voice sounded like that

also $300? fuck you i hate how easy it is for americans
>>
>>43285145
It was mostly covered by my insurance. Most cases aren’t like that.
>>
>>43285185
still, fuck you
>>
>>43285119
Sure heres some more specific questions:

1) is your vocal range limited to that pitch or can you now talk higher more comfortably compared to pre surgery

2) was the recovery period painful outside of having to be mute for a month

3) if you have a cold does your voice wildly change

4) I can probably guess the answer but (outside of the regular effects) is smoking even worse for your throat then before?
>>
>>43285119
idk, the way you speak is bubbly, it's cute
>>
>>43285119
>self love

lol the basically free life changing surgery did that for you
>>
>>43285210
Oh I can speak in a far higher pitch. This is just my base relaxed voice.

The first few days were pretty miserable. Swallowing was a bitch and my throat felt really tight. Also the psychological impact of not knowing how I’d sound after I healed. It wasn’t instant, and even when I could talk, it was horse and took months to really “get there”. Pain wise though it wasn’t the worst after like a week.

If I have a cold I just sound like me but more nasal

I wasn’t warned it was any worse. I still smoke weed and (at the time) recreationally vaped after recovering

>>43285322
I mean, I have to suffer by being an American where I’ll always live close to paycheck to paycheck and no future hope.

You dont think you look cute? nonsense
>>
>>43285782
Well I’m trans and over 30 so I’m never satisfied with anything about myself.

But in general, I know there’s a lot of fear around the surgery and a small sample size of people who get it, so I like to provide my input where helpful or wanted.

So to be clear based on what that other anon was asking—your highest possible pitch is now higher than it was pre-surgery? I get that it takes out the low range but does it actually allow you to speaker HIGHER than before?
I've asked this question a few times on this board and no one ever seems to understand what I mean.
>>
>>43285903
srsoid too?
>>
>>43286108
To use gamer speak, you’re asking if my pitch cap increased? It’s hard to say. I don’t know if my literal limit went up, but I know I’m able to reliably hit that upper range pretty effortlessly whereas before I’d struggle to do less than where I am now.
My limit limit is a struggle

>>43286170
Not yet, by choice. I’m considering it more and more by the day though

Kinda nervous posting my voice but

>>43277257
Basically just talking like a girl 24/7 and listening back to it helps the most. Other than that, I think listening to a voice you like and trying to imitate the cadence and pronunciation of words is helpful.

Was considering VFS but it kinda spooked me.
>>
>>43281370
i thought surgeon didn't take patients unless they already tried (and failed) voice training
>>
>>43286267
You sound fantastic, you don’t need it imo. VFS is only spooky on the surface. It’s not that bad, trust me!

>>43286350
Huh, never heard that. I don’t think I was ever asked. If I was then I probably just said I didn’t want to cause damage by doing it wrong.

>>
>>43287177
Not quite there yet, sorry. It’s got real potential though and I see the vision
>>
>>43287319
What would you do to improve it?

I'm nasally because I broke my nose when I was 8.
>>
>>43277257
unironically watch girl voice trolling how to videos.
then once you can do that learn to raise your larynx
then once you can do that read this
http://lena.kiev.ua/voice/
then once you can to that just practice practice practice
worry about pitch once your resonance is good

also ofc practice all throughout to get used to speaking in a feminized voice
singing is good for building vocal strength and getting comfortable and higher stress levels, like working out.

I wouldn't get too hung up on trying to figure out the best way to learn and just focus on practicing. As someone who's learned guitar and learned japanese. I wasted god awful amounts of time watching videos ABOUT learning guitar or ABOUT learning japanese instead of just sitting tf down and doing it.

here's what I sound like right now

>>
>>43287423
Literally just keep using it and getting more comfortable with your pitch. It takes tone but you’re on the right track

she uses an ai voice changer

"toan" is a literal meme in guitar bc of how useless and directionless a term like tone is lol.
to give some direction
one issue seems to be more with the resonance, the oral/laryngeal space is too large/open. I would say practice makes perfect for this one, specifically raising your larynx more and try also "pulling it back" if that makes sense. make sure you aren't straining as on top of hurting your vocal chords, will also just make your voice sound more strained
your pre and post training voice are both nasally so I won't point that out but bc many people do unintentionally make their voice nasally when trying to sound feminine it comes across as clocky, so kinda just unlucky there.
Your pitch is is a good place, but you have heavier voice, in the sense that it's very "buzzy". I personally never fully understood that aspect of voice since my voice was lighter before training anyway but from what I understand trying to more conciously use your head voice helps. what I try to do is try to envision my voice coming from between my nose and lips then flowing out through my mouth.
those are the main things i noticed.
Your progress so far great and sounds awesome that lifes going well for you rn
>>
My average pitch is 237 Hz
Am I doing it right?
>>
>>43281370
Omg. Who was your surgeon?? Please tell me more information!!
>>
>afab
>2 natty voice drops (might have ncah or sth)
>5 years of t (didn't do much atp but like it's there)
>15 years of voice training
>REALLY successful early on but never became automatic
>keep bouncing between female and male voice with little to no control over it
>don't feel strained it anything i just catch myself with the wrong voice and correcting it lasts like 2 seconds
>regress if anything (first few years i could just choose to sound like a moid and keep it for an hour or so)
Anyone had the same issue or heard about it?
I have similarly unmaskable autism (forget I'm doing body language the instant i have to do anything else like, listening to what people say to me, literally any action involving the brain), I wonder if voice low key counts as masking and it's just impossible to automate, is it more common for autists to be bad at this
The female voice is also kinda trained before I decided to pivot into pooning rather than something I sounded originally, but like, all of them feel natural to me now, I just can't control what the fuck I'm doing

what documents did you have to give him?
what questions did he asked you before surgery?
i don't think you can answer but how would getting an appointment with him work for a foreigner?
>>
>>43293046
I didn’t give anything besides insurance information from what I remember.
He mostly asked me if I tried training, what my expectations were, and talked details in how the procedure worked.
I’d imagine it’s the same as a local. Call/email (if it’s the same as my experience, they operate almost only through email) and give them your info, set an appointment date, do it, etc.

>>43295084
thank you for answering my questions :)
how much delay was there between you first contacting them and getting the surgery done

This passes. It’s not “hyper fem” so some people will probably disagree, but you sound like one of my cis f friends.
The volume thing is a struggle. No idea what to do there. Maybe just practice bringing volume up on drives or while singing

I just recently started voice training and I've pretty quickly gotten to the point where I can stay in the female pitch range for a while. But it requires conscious effort and it sounds pretty fake. Kind of a Michael Jackson quality to it.

I guess that it's just practice that will make it easier to maintain without effort, but what's the tips and tricks for making my voice sound more natural?
