Season 1 (the good season) has a tragic ending. At no point is Rue rewarded for being a mentally ill drug addict. At no point is Nate given sympathy for being a psychopath. The only pure characters are Cassie (the naive victim of her own sexuality) and Jules (an actual angel), both of whom are constantly beset by the cruel world around them, and yet are drawn to people who not only are unhealthy for them, but who they KNOW are unhealthy for them. Because drugs don't just destroy the lives of the addict, they destroy the lives of everyone else around. And that's a story worth telling. But it's not a story you're able to hear, because you're too busy waiting for Bruce Willis to blow up the boat full of drugs saving america from the fentanyl epidemic with the power of the 2nd ammendment. But that's not reality, that's escape. Tragedy is about saying something true, not something nice. Are you satified? I ate your bait.
