sexuality shouldn't be straight, gay, bi, etc it should just be ranked on a sliding scale between gynophilia and androphilia. Full gynophilia is feminine cis women only, androphilia is masculine cis men only. There's obviously some wiggle room due to different societal conceptions of both, but this makes more sense. Think of the "reddit bisexual" for example, attracted to women and feminine males. That's just a gynophile leaning andro, just a bit. Not something you'd lump with someone on both ends of the spectrum.
it's true, the problem with modern sexualities is that they require two bits of information, the sex of the object and the sex of the subjectso if you say you're gay, it actually means nothing unless I know your sex first. But if you say you're an androphile then I know what you're talking aboutit also makes weird associations, because if you're gay man your sexuality is closer to a straight woman, and if you're a gay woman your sexuality is closer to a straight man. But the idea of "gay" combines gay men and lesbian women which doesn't really describe a direction of sexuality.
