Well, 'social category' is an over-generalization to begin with. Lets imagine a group of young adult women who are all friends and one is transgender. Some of them will hang out with her when they are all together. Some of them will hang out with her one on one. Some of them will gossip with her on the phone. Some of them will visit the hospital when her mom has a stroke. Some of them will go to dinner when she gets promoted. Some of them will let her buy them drinks when she is fired. Some of them will change clothes around her. Some of them will gossip in the bathroom in the club with her. Beliefs, or the awareness of strongly held prejudicial convictions, aren't a very good means of distinguishing relativistic social acts. To put it a way an incel would understand: most women act without belief.

Men often like to diminish it to impulse or emotionality, but when they are being socially strategic and self interested on instinct its not driven by emotionality.

I think some trans women are women and some are men. On the whole they're a unique thing and they overlap with men and women in different ways and trans women who put in a lot of effort to live as a woman have more overlap with cis women than cis men
