I'm ftm and been stealth for a few years and pretty much forgot what it used to be like to get perceived as a woman. It just stops being relevant at a certain point, in particular if you never identified much with it. Like moving from a broke bum neighbourhood into a nice, clean new home.

The ones who refuse to/are scared of idea of being a man are the ones that do what you describe. That's where all the "theyfabs" and tumblrinas reside. The ones who identify as men are more like the MTFs you describe. They get drowned out and pushed out by the former (trans women push them out too, but that's its own can of worms), and are more likely to end up isolated and without community. They don't feel like they have any place among LGBT communities so they disappear into a stealth life and their voices/experiences so largely unheard.
