Why do people install Linux just to make it look like macOS or Windows? It takes away GNOME's identity.
>>

i couldve installed kde but it looks ggggaaaaaayyyyyyy

init systems are maybe the least relevant thing ever and the only reason people care is tech youtubers
>>
>>43545778
systemd pre-emptively complied with kyc laws

It's not about the init sytem it's about systemd specifically.

Since its inception it's been doing too much. I can't wait for systemd boot and the systemd kernel in 2037!!!!
Also they were being turbo sketchy with age verif for a brief period recently, which is why I actually swapped over to a distro that supported other init systems.

My machine would have boot times of about 1 min 47 sec when I was on systemd and when I swapped to openrc for a different reason boot times went to a normal 3 seconds.
>>
>>43546995
less and less systemd an init system for linux and more and more it wants you to run linux through systemd
>>
>>43546995
Some guy in the 70s said so
'do one thing and do it well' some neckbeard in a university lab
Unix philosophy isn't a hard rule and there's a lot of cases where it is actually better to not do that, but systemd is probably the most obvious exception and proof of it as a concept in the open source space.
Systemd is technically a collection of projects that work together to do the job of a functioning init system and more, as an all in one package that's easy to deploy. The problem is despite being a modular system practically none of those modules are usable in a setup that doesn't include the rest of the systemd suite of tools, and with it being developed primarily by Red Hat, a company who sell linux as a product to professionals, it doesn't take much to extrapolate they might have an agenda that's prioritized over function and interoperability
Even if you assume there's absolutely no ulterior motives going on there systemd is also just annoying to use for numerous reasons. They made fucking logs that require a program to read. If I want to read system logs I can only do it using journalctl, which of course is packaged with systemd as a whole. Why they chose to store literal text data in a pseudo-proprietary binary format is a mystery to all but red hat themselves. What it does mean though is if something goes wrong, if I want to read those logs on a separate system it has to be a systemd one
