This is probably the wrong place to ask, but can someone please just explain to me what the fuck being nonbinary means? I've literally never met a trans person other than in passing but I could ace a test on that shit, makes total sense, no questions, no notes.
Meanwhile I know like 10 people who identify as nonbinary (not close enough to ask them any of this shit) and I still have no fucking clue what it actually means

At first I thought it was just like super androgynous intersex people who were chill as-is and didn't want to transition to one sex or the other. Cool, makes sense
Then it's like "oh, it's androgynous people who go by they/them, some of them even partially medically transition." Okay, still makes sense, I'm down
Then we get to "well people don't really have to 'perform androgyny' to have their gender identity respected, so it's anyone who goes by they/them." Alright, fair, I'm a little unsure now if we're still in the realm of "how someone's born" vs "an adopted political identity" but I guess either way is fine
And now I hear "I'm a male, and I identify as a nonbinary man who uses he/him pronouns" and I'm just like... okay, I think I need to go back to the drawing board, because fucking what?

its the gender version of being a fake bisexual woman or its a coping mechanism for troons and poons or an andro person who enjoys being intersex (whether natural or medically induced with hrt).

You don't identify with being a man or woman (not on the binary)

im in category 1 there but i have no problem with people who are nonbinary just as an internal way of viewing themselves

its nice to escape expectations of gender, even if you're only escaping your own expectations for yourself
