I find it helps to stimulate my mind by reading one rule from the 21 Rules of the Mind by Descartes each morning. Each precept helps to keep me going by offering advice on reading and studying. When I might be bogged down in something else which is difficult science or philosophy I read a precept and it helps look at the bigger picture, the search for wisdom.

This structure of how to follow logic in your search for wisdom in sciences or in philosophy is a great starter point to get yourself going. I read just one rule a day and contemplate on it a bit.
