Freud: Our desires are formed during our formative years and continue to subconsciously influence us later in life. We must confront these subconscious desires in order to fully mature.
Retards: WHY YOU THINK I WANT FUCK MOMMY

It's hard to imagine an older man more handsome than he was. Joseph Conrad maybe but his eyes and their surrounding area are kinda fucky

all his actually good ideas weren't actually his (unconscious, id, death drive, dream interpretation), and his own actual ideas (penis envy, sexual development, oedipus complex) were deranged

>subconscious
jung and freud never use this word

Probably because he applies his more sound foundations in these ridiculous paradigms.

What are some sources on pre-Freudian theories of the decent concepts? I don‘t doubt it but have always heard it framed as "it was just common knowledge that your childhood continued to influence you" which is believable but unsatisfying.

Freud is like the Greeks of psychoanalysis, even if you don't agree with him he is still the roots of the practice

Apparently Schopenhauer and Hartmann? He claimed to not have read Nietzsche until later but that’s hard to believe. But honestly he’s pretty original. I read him when I was relatively young and was completely taken up by his system which enabled me to introspect in ways I never could before and actually solve some of my psychological issues (neurotic). Even Julius Evola (who for several reasons I dislike) was an admirer of Freud.

Whyte - The Unconscious Before Freud is a good one, you can skip the chapters on evolution and go straight to where he quotes different books throughout time. Stevens - Private Myths has some parts about how Freud's dream interpretation was anticipated by ancient oneirology.

does Freud ever talk about sibling issues or who else does that?

NTA but thanks for the rec.

Your desire to see me apologise is rooted in subconscious feelings of inferiority stemming from the childhood trauma of seeing your dad sexually possess your mother and frustrating your desire to have her for herself.

degeneracy has evolved so much, and just being on this site, you see how many people can trace their fetish simply to a scene from a movie or cartoon

freud thinks psychosexual development occurs as early as birth through specific stages (oral, anal, phallic etc.). That psychological disorders stem from unfulfilled stages during development(eg. depressive - oral, hysterical - oedipal).

All this occurs unconsciously and not merely subconsciously. So (You) yourself do not know about any of this, but Dr. Freud know and he will charge to tell you his theory and cure(seduce) you
