Is this the best Russian novel that has been written in the 20th century?
>>
>>24680081
Nah
>>
>>24680135
Why are you denying it?
>>
>>24680174
NTA but it's just not that good. There's a reason even in adolescent dystopian lit lists it usually isn't brought up.
I can't say for sure what the best would be, but if the competition includes stuff like Petersburg and The Foundation Pit it's not gonna be We.
>>
>>24680228
When's the last time you read it? Maybe you don't remember correctly...
>>
>>24680081
I thought it was okay but I liked The Master and Margarita better. As far as the critique of communism goes I think that the latter had something more profound to say than We.

It was kind of funny though I'll give it that.

I prefer Roadside Picnic when it comes to Russian SF
>>
>>24680259
What is funny about We?
>>
>>24680081
For me it's Time, Forward!
>>
>>24680081
Just finished it. Pretty good and more interesting than its Anglo counterparts.

Not even close
>>
>>24680259
>the critique of communism
*Collectivism/statism/authoritarianism

Communism is when there is no government. Or are you a Marxist, anon?
>>

The space hat, the middle aged woman hitting on him, the lobotomies. Dark humor.
>>
>>24680733
Communism is when oceans are turned into lemonade

Dystopian novels just fucking sucks in general. They make a strawman of authoritarian regimes. Its just unrealistic and therefore pointless really
>>
>>24681064
It’s not a strawman, because it’s not realist literature. It’s dystopian, a vision of the future.
>>
>>24680955
No, really. It comes form the medieval/Renaissance communes. People that built walled towns and hired independent mercenaries to protect them form the tax collecting "lords" and bishoprics. The British Levellers set the precedent (that had been set down in the bible for-fucking-ever. Acts 4:32) that questions these lofty bitches and their claims to own whatever land and properties their lawyers say they own.
Fast forward to the revolutionary age and we get people fighting for a cause the liberal republicans distorted, so they founded ever stronger political theory. "commune-ism" is the ideal of ridding ourselves of that recent invention of a state and the money it uses to enslave its workforce.
(China claims it will whiter away someday, but who trusts them besides Marxists?)

>They make a strawman of authoritarian regimes
lol are you one of those tards who thinks deep down that you'll be an aristocrat in an authoritarian regime
>>
>>24681075
>whiter
Whither away, of course.
>>
>>24680081
No, “Monday Begins on Saturday” is superior.
>>
Dystopia novels not having phone zombies automatically makes them preferable than the current state we're in. The genre is fucked
>>
>>24681296
We does accurately predict the lobotomies the state needs to keep "order"
>>
>>24680081
I read this prior to 1984, and the whole time reading through 1984 I was wondering what the fuck was the point of writing this book?

We is far more interesting and written a more remarkable way, 1984 lays it on so thick that I would say it's more parody than satire. What the fuck was Orwell thinking?

Anyways, Solaris is pretty good too.
>>
>>24681661
Orwell was a fool.
>>
Why are there buch of women namea on there?

Yet you fear him, curious.
