>>24680443It's a lot like addiction. In order to quit, you have to want to. By the same token, in order to live you have to want to.There's a huge difference between wanting to die and being suicidal, which might sound strange to someone who hasn't experienced either/both. People who want to die and say things like "I wish I was dead" are not as serious as they think they are. I should know because I thought like that for a long time and made no attempts or steps to take my life. In essence, I didn't really mean it even though I thought I did. In my periods of chronic suicidal thinking however I wanted life to get better. I wanted to be happy. I wanted to there to be some other way than death. That way of thinking is both a way out of suicide and also can be the final nail in the coffin when you feel like there is no other way out and you have no options left. People who commit suicide don't want to die, it's that they feel they have to because anything else is unbearable. To bring this round to literature, David Foster Wallace tried all kinds of treatments for his depression, including electroshock therapy before going back on the medication that he had been forced to go off only to find that unlike before it no longer worked. At that point he felt he had exhausted all options and so took up the rope and that was that. What I would say is that a book is not going to convince you to live. You have to make concrete actions to change your thinking. You can go down the psychiatry therapy route or you can do something completely different like abandon your friends and family and go live in the woods which is a suicide in effect with the bonus that you are still alive and have a chance to change for the better.Good luck and God speed

>>24680443I dunno, depends exactly on why you want to do it. If it's because you don't see a point in life, maybe something like The Stranger or the Myth of Sisyphus by Camus. If it's because you feel lost or hopeless, maybe Meditations of Marcus Aurelius.
You Can't Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought is said to help folks change their minds about how they look at life

>>24680443These kinds of threads are played out. Just admit you want to be alive and move on.
