Why is this so tragically underrated? I really think this should get more attention, especially instead of that hopelessly overhyped Notes from Underground.
>>24680740I started reading it but and wasn't super impressed then someone told me that nothing really happens and that it's mostly soap opera drama so I put it on the shelf. Saying this as someone who loves Dosto and has read all his post exile novels and novellas and even rates The Double highly even though it was a rip off of Gogol
>>24680845Have you even read until the point where Makar arrives? He’s one of Dosto‘s greatest characters. Well, for Versilov alone I think this book is worth reading, but whatever, if you didn’t feel it… and it’s not true that nothing really happens, the story develops into a thrilling crime drama.
>>24680861Well maybe I'll give it another go. I didn't throw my copy away, it's still on my shelf so I'll give another go at some point. I would love for it to be good and I do find it hard to believe he could have written a bad novel at that point in his career/life
>>24680845>nothing really happens and it's mostly soap opera dramaYou just described every single of Dosto's works thoughever
>>24680740It's not that great.
>>24680740there’s no difference between this and the idiot hehehe
>>24681313It is, I wholeheartedly believe Makar Ivanovich Dolgoruky, Andrei Petrovich Versilov and Sofya Andreevna Dolgoruky are some of the greatest characters he has ever written.>>24682266Complete anti-thesis from each other
